XK8 No start ....SM Fault

Featured Replies

Afternoon All from a wet and dreary Northumberland.

The XK8 started fine after the winter slumbers but next time I tried it ran for a second then stopped and now it won't go at all.

The iCarsoft V3 tells me that there's an Instrument Pack fault,  a Security Locking Module fault and Ignition state not obtained.

Can anyone make sense of this lot and point me in the right direction please?

How I miss the days of points and ticking fuel pumps☹️

Thanks

Pete

Hi Frank- Battery was down a bit so it's on charge now.  I tested the resistance of the pump and it's about 1.5 ohms. linking out the fuel pump relay I can't hear the pump running and no fuel at all at the rail on the engine. Looks like the pump has had it and I'm hoping all the other stuff is incidental,

It's interesting that the pump shows a healthy resistance ?but doesn't seem to be running when I jump a live to it. Maybe it's seized?

New  pump on order and preparing myself for the infamous fuel lines underneath.

Hi Pete --You say your battery was down a bit - so next question is -How old is the battery ???

This still points me to say battery fault ???

Hi Frank

Battery was replaced 2 years ago. Pretty sure the pump has had it, there's a definite live to it and no noise or signs of petrol at the header. New pump on order and the tank is almost out. I've done some awkward jobs in my 70 odd years but those two pipes underneath are something else.👹 Much cursing and skinning of knuckles.

Will report back.

Latest update:  New pump arrived but is a bit longer than the original so some mods to the mounting bracket are the order of the day. Old pump definitely goosed so just hoping that all the other stuff goes away. 🙏

New pump installed and all is well. The tank is one awkward so and so to get into place  and the 2 pipes underneath are just something else but  all the nasty messages have gone away and a pint beckons.

Happy days.....till the next time
