Hi All,

Simple question, hopefully. Does anyone know if the Body Control Module (BCM) can be replaced without the need to reprogram the ECU?

I have a 2009 x type estate and I'm having a few issues with locks, windows, keyfobs. I have tried literally everything to fix all the issues and the only thing left to try is replacing the BCM.

I've heard people tell me they can be sent out to be tested but I can only find these services for the XF models. So my intention is to try and get a used BCM from ebay or a breaker yard to swap it out but I'm not sure if this is something that can even be done.

Hi Charlotte, I am not overly familiar with the X-type but from a general knowledge perspective, practically all of the "modules" in a modern Jaguar need to be programmed to the car. This can be achieved, I believe, using the Jaguar or Auto Logic diagnostic equipment. Not sure it is something the home mechanic can readily achieve though.

You say you have already tried lots of fixes, but have you tried a new battery in the car? Again, modern Jaguars rely very heavily on a good battery and it would amaze you how many, apparently random and unrelated faults are thrown up by a failing battery, which can still start the vehicle, but have voltage spikes that upsets the electronics. I recommend that the battery be considered a consumable and changed when it gets to 5 years old. As given, the ability to start the car is no longer the best measure of the battery's health.

Hi Charlotte, did you get a definitive answer to your query? - I think I also need to replace the BCM as I have also tried new battery, various resets, lubricating window holders etc. Charlie
