Droning noise at about 1500rpm

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest the source of a droning sound coming from the left rear of my 2017 XF-S 3.0D. I'm thinking it must be exhaust related since it happens at any speed and in any gear, even when stationary and gently revved. It isn't particularly annoying, but it is beginning to bug me!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers,
Jon

Hi Jon, check that the exhaust is still firmly attached to the rear of the car. The rear support beams are prone to corrosion and the exhaust bracketry fails, causing the exhaust to start thrumming.

Thanks Jim,

I'll take a look later (when the frost melts!)

Hi all,

Apologies for the slow response. Unfortunately had to deal (successfully!) with prostate cancer.

Anyway… nothing loose, but noise remains. Will get my local Indy to take a look soon.

Thanks all,

Jon

Hi Jon

Just a thought but maybe a leak in the exhaust....
Have you tried momentarily blocking the tailpipe to increase the internal pressure and see if it has an effect?

Regards

John
