fixing a cylinder head gasket leak temporarily

Hi, My 2002 S type has started to leak oil from the head gasket...the nearest garage to me in The Czech Republic is 2 hours away..is it safe to drive for so long? will it burst into flames? is there a temporary cure that would last long enough to get to the garage?

Can you just clarify. Are you talking about and external oil leak or an internal failure of the the cylinder head gasket? If an external leak it would help to see a photo....

Forgot to say i believe it's an external leak, but curios why oil is above the gasket line.

It isn't the cam cover gasket it is the manifold actuator flap gasket. Check behind the manifold casting and you will find it is wet. Another good reason for an oil catch tank from the engine breather.

HI justin, sorry about the late reply, thank you for giving me the info, would never have figured it myself...hopefully it will be a cheaper fix, and thanks for the ebay connection.

do I need to buy and replace the 2 items you mention? or is it just the gasket ring?

Only the gasket rings (2) I think you can just about access them without removing manifold casting. When you have one actuator removed, test it with 12v to check it's function and don't get the loom connectors mixed up between the upper and lower actuator.
