good day to you, i had my XJ (x351) engine let go big time, i managed to source a low milage engine from an  rear end accident damaged  car, the car went to a jaguar landrover specialist to have the change done, since i got it back i have 2 faults,  fan 1 control circuit and the pan roof is not working, any advice would be appreciated, i have done the obvious reset holding the forward button on the roof also checked every fuse in the 3 fuse boxes and none had blown, obviously the battery was disconnected for quite a while, not sure if this might have any bearing on the problem at all.

any help or advice that i am able to do myself i would be grateful, i am pretty handy with a spanner so willing to have a go, plus after paying for a replacement engine and fitting has left the coffers somewhat low,

many thanks for any help

Hi Graham, sounds like an unfortunate experience there, but hopefully you can get it all back and working again.

For the roof, you need to test with a multi meter that voltages are getting to the correct place, i.e. the correct fuse - remember that a fuse can "look" fine but only a resistance test would confirm, - the switch in the roof, etc. Can you hear any relay clicks as the roof switch is operated? In normal circumstances, the operation of the roof would not be linked to the replacement engine, but with Jaguar you never can tell.

For the fan 1, could it be as simple as a connector loose / not reseated correctly after the engine installation. The fan should generate a fault code (DTC) of some description which can be read with an OBD code reader, which in turn would help point you in the right direction.

thank you i have nothing not even a click when i try to operate the roof, it was working fine as were the blinds before it went to workshop, they asked if it was working i said yes but never tested it till i was home, he had an obd reader on it and said no roof module detected, i assumed he had re programmed it, the garage is 2 hours away or i would take it back, i will check the plug on the fan to see it it is loose or indeed not plugged in and let you know

again thanks for the suggestions

finally sorted it, and it was such a simple fix, if anyone experiences this problem here are the simple steps to fix the issue,

1. open boot and disconnect the neg (-) terminal

2. leave disconnected for 5 minuets

3. touch the negative (-) lead to the positive (+) and hold it there for 30 seconds.

4. close boot lid manually.

5. press and hold pan roof open button.

you may also have to reset the handbrake by holding down the foot brake and applying the handbrake.

after doing this mine is all working fine even on the remote fob. hope this might help anyone else with the same issue i had.
