I don't know about Xk's but have had that warning on my S Type a couple of times. The display alternates between the fault and Restrictive Performance which restricts the car to a maximum 30 mph.

First time, can't remember the fault but it cleared after restart. Second time the fault display stated Hand Brake Failure. The nice guy who services the car came to my home, plugged in a lap top and cleared the alarms. He didn't charge me! Suggest you go to a dealer or someone who can do a diagnostic software check. B)

Had this problem with my 2001 XKR. Same circumstance after winter storage. Turned out to be battery under par!! Even though it was on trickle charge it had lost some storage efficiency during hibernation and was effecting electronics. New battery got it sorted.

I had the same problem on my XK8 earlier this year, it was a faulty coil pack. There is one coil pack on the top of each spark plug, the lowest cost supplier I found was SNG Barratt at £28 + VAT each.
