Hi Folk.

I am a new member. Just bought an '04 X Type 2ltr deisel [120000 miles on clock.] Not as smooth or as quiet as the 3ltr S type I owned a few years ago but then it is an estate [without a luggage cover which can't help] and 17 inch wheels.

By having 17 inch wheels, does that mean it has sport suspention?

The car looks perfect and drives very well but once warm, at tick over there is a loud rattle from the off side of the engine which rather spoils the immage. Give it just a tad more revs and the rattle disapears.

The mechanic recons it could be a slack belt tensioner!

Can anyone help please. Thank you.

Hi.

I wrote previously about a rubling noise from my X TYPE 2ltr diesel at tickover.

Found out what it is. The aux belt pully is not up to the job, puts pressure on the tensioner arm causing the noise. This happens on a regular basis to this engine no matter what vehicle it is fitted to.

If you fit a standard pully, belts and tensioner the noise will re-appear within a year. Upgraded pully kits are available from e-bay - look for 'Genuine Jaguar'. Around £200 quid I am afraid. Well, it is a Jaguar!

i have the same noise from my engine, even though i have fitted all new pulleys and belts (all genuine jaguar parts). These engines are notorious for having this rattle to them and is nothing to worry about.although i wish i could get rid of it,any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi all, I have this noise too, when I bought my Jaguar 18 month ago I noticed this noise, took back to the main dealer I bought it from, I said it was the tensioner, and the dealer replaced it, my Jaguar has 97000 miles on the clock and this noise is back, what is the life time of a tensioner anyone help

I have the same problem, a hundred or so extra revs stops it .... is it possible and has anyone adjusted the tickover to factor out the noise?
