Hello...

Hello all, hope you are all well.

I feel a bit of a fraud, I do not own a Jaguar yet.. but intend to in the near future.

I am getting on a bit now, and feel I deserve, no need more luxury and comfort in my life.

I currently run a Peugeot 107 and an LDV cub van. I intend to keep the every frugal 107, as I only fill up once every 2 months and tax is only £20 a year. I do intend though to change my van for a Jaguar estate.

The reason I have my van is becaue we have 7 dogs, two of them can be classed as large.

As we never seem to take all out together, I intended to get an estate that can fit the 'biggies'in when they go out especially if they need a rare visit to the vet.

So I will be on the lookout soon for a Jaguar estate, I was sold when a neighbour told me about how well his 2004, 2.0 diesel ran and how economical it was on long journeys. He was so positive and enthusiastic about his lovely car, I go the tour and offer of test drive and also to view his extensive spreadsheet he has on all the miles done and fuel used.

I do not know as much as I should about this British classic so I will be reading and learning where ever I can.

Anyway enough for now...

Time to explore the forum.

Welcome to the forum, you neighbours quiet right to boast about his Jaguar, I got my first 5 year ago onto my second now, was very suppressed how well the drove was expecting a slow but comfortable ride , well comfortable yes, slow was ver much mistaking, first car was 2.0 lt desiel plenty of power now driving the x type sport, can not fault it, but if I did find a fault someone here would soon point me in the right direction into fixing it,

I get called a old man for driving a Jaguar, only because they don't no how they drive or can be driven,

Hi Martin, welcome to the club and future Jag ownership.  I've had mine just over a year now and should have bought one sooner - as Burl said until you drive one you have a false impression of them.  Unfortunately mine's not as economic as the model you seek, I have a V8 Sport and when pushed you see the fuel gauge immediately change :o but I wouldn't change it for anything at the mo :D

Firstly Burl, thanks for your reply... I am looking forward to when I can start serious looking.... a few months away yet maybe even a year. I do enjoy a bit of rsearch though so taking all comments on board.

And Dave, I would be lying if I said I had not thought about getting what my heart would enjoy and ignore the running costs. But would need to be practical.

But who knows what might happen in the future.

Will be chasing down the issue of insurance and 'quote' that mass flywheel problem, which seems to be mentioned alot in sales of second hand jags.

Hi Martin, the way I look at it, in a few years (maybe a decade or two) either the price of fuel will be extremely prohibitive to use a private motor car or the government will put such a heavy duty on not so fuel efficient cars that it will not be practicable to run one, I think the government will force us mere mortals in to poxy town run arounds with either electric or at the best hybrid engines that there will be little or no fun in driving, so while I can I drive with a big smile on my face :D  V8 power :D :D :D

Dave, you have a point. Plus as after hearing this lovely saying. 'Don't take life serious, after all no one gets out alive'.

Might as well enjoy this life while I have the chance.

I think I will broaded my criteria for my Jaguar estate.

Just V8s, seen a few V6s but not thought to look bigger....

Just had a deckers on eBay, few on there, look nice.

I think between eBay, piston head, and autotrader there are plenty to whet the appetite depending on the modely you're after -  obviously if you need the estate it's going to limit the number.  Also if you go for the supercharged version then they are a bit like rocking horse s**t

Hello Simon, looks like I need to find a 2ltr diesel V8 supercharged estate sport.

Although at the moment have a 107 for economy and LDV Cub for loads (including the dogs).

Maybe I should change them for a pair of Jaguars, one V8 4.2 supercharged sporty and a 2.0 diesel estate.

I feel my biggest battle is convincing my better half that this is the best option. Especially when the 107 only gets filled up once every 2 months and only 20 pounds a year road tax.

Do what I did smarty tell you better half after you bought it, but just for the record it is not advisable unless have selective hearing as speaking from experiance 5 years after and 2 jags later I still get reminded of it, good look

Burl I know exactly what you mean, my wife was making me sarnies for work. I said, "any chance of some tomato on it?".

Oh I see, she said my sandwichesa are boring are they! She now will not do them on principle. That was 13 years ago...

Wifes eh.... Can't live with em.. against the law to get rid of them...
