Hi Everyone

Just collected my first Jag, an S type 3.0 auto. Absolutely superb for not much more than an average holiday for 2. Also got a great deal on a multicar policy with Aviva.

Its done 108k with a good regular service record. My question for the knowledgable is would it be worth while as preventive measure to have the gear box fluid and filter changed? and what sort of cost should I expect, does this need to done by an auto transmission specialist?

Are there any recalls that I should try check if done, can Jaguar UK help in this respect.

Thanks , looking forward to some great motoring in the Jag

cheers to all

Dave

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum and Jag ownership, cleary you are a man of good taste having bought the best looking model in the modern range.  I say that as I found myself oggling my S-Type this evening - just as the sun was starting to set, must have been there about five minutes    :o  :D

Anyway, happy motoring,

Dave

Hi David, regarding changing the gearbox fluid and filter I would say yes. Ideally I believe it should be changed at approximately every 60000 miles so even if yours was done then with 108k now on the clock it would not hurt to have it changed again. No you do not need to go to a transmission specialist to get it done a good independant garage will do it for you at a cost of between £120.00 and £160.00 dependant on the garage, or you could entrust the job to Jaguar but it will no doubt cost substanially more with them. Shop around garages you know and can trust and ask them for an estimate for doing it, it is a fairly standard procedure with no real potential for complications so they should be able to give you a good idea of what the job will cost, you could even enquire of Jaguar and see what they come up with. Good luck and best wishes and enjoy your S-Type they really are a super car, Geoff.
