remap+dpf removal

Hi members, thinking of doing as my topic says, ive read so much about the probs with dpfs , as a lot of my driving is short local trips iam expecting probs in the future, I also like the thought of another 10% bhp and torque, , apparently the 2.7 diesel is so tunable and safely done, any thoughts on this subject or advice please, cheers mick

I would definitely recommend a remap. Engines are downgraded on power by the manufacturers to preserve reliability.

It is normally perfectly safe to remap if the engine is in good overall condition and just involves a plug in to the OBD socket.

Original 'maps' are usually preserved to reset if the vehicle doesn't respond too well.

Any increase in power/torque output is beneficial...especially on short trips with a DPF.

If the engine is worked hard, even on short trips it should assist in keeping the system in good working order.

 

Let me know how you get on, it would be nice to get feedback (hopefully positive!) on the remap.

Hi Trevor, thanks for the reply, my sons just had his s remapped and the dpf removed, its made a big difference it pulls a lot harder with only a slight puff of smoke on acceleration, he has yet to see about mpg, me next I think .cheers.mick

I can say it defo improved the performance, got cae booked on a dyno road on monday so ill see the exact performance gain.

Hi guys had a dyno run done last week, very impressed indeed. 

 

Dyno showed 243.5bhp and 411 lb-ft torque.

 

Next thing is to get the cats removed.

Definitely sounds like removing the DPF and remap is the way forward then.....also removing cats should increase power/torque output.

yeah it would plus i may give the exhaust a nice sound too, as long its not too loud.

I have looked into having my DPF removed on my S type and I've been told that they don't actually remove it but its contents? Does anyone know if this is right? One of the reasons for me considering this removal is it grounds out when ever I go go over sleeping policemen etc... So if they do leave it in place then this worn necessarily solve my problem?

The removal procedure on some vehicles is to remove the complete unit and install a straight through section.

Okay so I have just driven back from the garage after having my car remapped and the DPF removed and to be honest it doesn't feel that much different? I thought it would blow my socks off when I drove home but NO! I didn't get any paperwork other than the receipt to show me before and after torque readings and be be honest I am kinda doubting the work was actually done??? 

 

So would anyone be able to put my mind at ease? Is there someway of finding out without causing offence to the guys at the garage that done the work?

if i was you danny id find your local rolling road and ask them to do a dyno run, to be honest i didnt see a big difference at first (it can take a few cycles for the sensors to adjust to get the full effect). now itv done a few hundred miles i can now, it picks up alot quicker. 

 

Quick question and i a point to everyone who is thinking of having this done, before you get dpf removed and remapped make sure you get the dpf pressure sensors reset to 0 or it will contine to count up and throw a light and warning on the dash. I was never told about this and had to spend a full day at a jaguar dealership plus £40 worth of diesel as they had to drive it to reset the computer.

I will be looking for a rolling road tomorrow had couple people say different things, one says it was immediately noticable and another suggested they might have just done a DPF remap and not a power/economy one something to look into I think.

just dpf removal is a possibility but you should see and increase anyway. when i had mine done they asked which map i wanted.

Hi Danny, look on a site called Quontum tuning, they do all kinds of maps and they guarantee an big increase in noticable power, iam having mine done shortly and will post the results on the forum, you should definitely notice an increase of 98 lbs of torque and 45 bhp, if you talk to a good tuner they tell you to be very careful ; some garages are not always honest with the work they do , if you know what I mean, as iam sure you do, I would take ricks advice have it on a rolling road to check the results, mick.

DANNY, iam a bit concerned when u say you cant feel any change in the power, I rode in my sons after he had his done and I could definitely feel a lot more pull and better pickup, plus the tuner ive booked mine with guarantees I will notice a big increase in power, ill report when its done, hope your dino run goes ok , cheers mick.

Well just got back from the rolling road and not quite sure what he did but wow what a difference! The car is putting out 228.1 BHP and 492 NM torque massive difference, he said they did do the work but he tweaked it slightly and now it's amazing. Glad I had it done now. Was worried I'd spent all that money for nothing being as money is tight at moment, one happy bunny. :)

Well guys Im having some trouble with the same type after dpf removal, after a few weeks the "dpf full" light came on and won't go off, spoke to the garage that did the removal and there looking into it but the only thing I can seem to find out is that the dpf software has not been removed correctly at the time of remap. If anybody can shed any light on the situation it would be very much appreciated.

as far as I know, the DPF Full lamp should be reprogrammed to not trigger by setting the counter to zero.

I'm sure they will soon come up with a solution for you

Yeah I had it zeroed but 3 week later it came back on.

The funny thing is my dad (mick t) is having the same problem now and he had his done at a different place, I'm beginning to wonder if it can be done at all.

I'm pretty sure that the remap should cancel out completely the DPF function...let us know how you get on with the garage regarding the re-installation of the software, if not then it will be a case of digging deeper to find a fix for it.
