I have just bought an XK8 convertable, 2000 on an X plate which has a problem with the gearbox I think; when driving along then taking my foot off the accelerator and letting the car slow down on its own to about 5 miles an hour then putting my foot back on the pedal to speed up again, there is a thud as the gears pic up again, a bit like a bang in the back  I did think it might be me but the garage has lent me an old XJ6 and it does not happen in that so it's not my driving, can anyone throw some light on this problem, thanks

Hi Alan

Firstly, welcome to the club!

Secondly, that sounds like a severe transmission fault or a loose/broken stabiliser bar or mounting.

I would imagine that the garage will check the obvious first but worst case scenario it may result in a replacement gearbox.

Hopefully its not the latter. Please let us know the outcome

Regards,   Trevor

Transfer box mounts / prop shaft/ differential  there are lots of things that could cause your problem it might be a simple fix to a costly one but look on the bright side it's a lovely car and when sorted will give you your money back in smile factor
