Slowly working through the car and find that the glove box just falls onto your knees if released, clearly there ought to be some king of restraint.

I have had a look and can't for the life of me see where it should go, perhaps somebody would be good enough to enlighten me on this?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Brian,

There is no retaining strap on my s type, although the box lid is retained by the shape of the lining and the frame of the glovebox.

My s type is a bit younger than yours, though.

There will be someone with a similar dated model who will tell you the answer.

A Heath Robinson fix might well be the easier solution - or a breaker's yard.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Brian, the glove box on my 2002 S-type is restrained by two "bumps" for want of a better word, one on each side wall, they rest on corresponding stops in the console when the glove box is opened, much the same as Peter's I would imagine. Hope this helps, best wishes Geoff.

I've been sold something that resembles a small cylindrical pressure cistern from a lavatory with a  length of twine attached...I think he might have foreseen my arrival as it were!

I've had a looksee and can see nowhere fo such a contraption to fit, I might have to put it in the darkest recesses of the kitchen drawer where all such ephemera reside!

Hi Geoff,

It does sound like the system in my car.

I think the Heath Robinson solution, using some impact glue and a small piece of plastic to replicate the "bumps" might be the answer.

And Brian, I have a large box in the garage in which all those little bits go.  You never know when those bits might come in useful

Regards,

Peter.
