  1. Hi all, Is there a way of identifying an XF paint colour by registration number alone? Unfortunately, the cars I need to identify the colour of are a long distance away and I don't have access to the VIN numbers. The colour I want for the XF would be Dark Sapphire Blue, and, subject to colour verification, probably not Indigo Blue. Am I correct in my assumption that the colour of the 2014 car in the image below is indeed Dark Sapphire as described in the advert? Am I correct in thinking that Dark Sapphire is darker than Indigo Blue? Any information greatly appreciated. TIA Paul.
  2. Many thanks for the replies, guys. I have noticed that the cars sporting the badge on the front grille have a slightly different steering wheel to accommodate the S badge. It seems that the aluminium-looking section on the steering wheel is covered with a leather section that houses the S badge. Steering wheel from a car without S badge on the front grille. V6 S Portfolio. Steering wheel from a car with S badge on the front grille. V6 S Portfolio. To thicken the plot somewhat, here is the steering wheel from a V6 S car with the front grille badge that is not a portfolio model. It's a premium luxury model, so perhaps it is some kind of option? Any further information would be greatly appreciated. TIA Paul.
  3. Can anyone please tell me the reason why some XF S cars (they all seem to have the S on the rear) have the additional S on the front grille and steering wheel, please? The two images below are from the same car. Also, the car in the listing below, is advertised as an S model, but doesn't even sport the S badge on the tailgate. Has the badge fallen off, or has the car had a tailgate repair and the S badge not replaced? LINK. Any help would stop me scratching my head and would be greatly appreciated. TIA. Paul.
  4. Hi Tom. I have been doing a little research and although I think I have one answer I may well have confused things a little further. I have found that: Cars that have the S on the front grille (as well as on the tailgate) have the S on the steering wheel. Cars that have the S on only the tailgate don't have the S on the steering wheel. Yet, even with my limited knowledge of the XF, I'm pretty sure that having an S on the tailgate does mean the car is an S model. So I wonder why some have the additional S on the front grille and steering wheel?
  5. Thanks again, Tom. I had checked the history which is why I knew the MOT expired in April, which tells me it's possible the dealer has had it for quite some time - I do know the price has been reduced. No S badge on the steering wheel is a great clue - I would never have thought of that. Thank you. I'm not sure the dealer would want to part with the VIN, but it's worth a try. I often have to call and request the reg number for cars that have a dealers promotional plate concealing the reg.
  6. Thanks, Tom. I'm confused because some of the 3.0lt "S" models have the "S" on just the tailgate, but some have the "S" on the front grille as well as on the tailgate. This car, listed as an "S" doesn't have the "S" on either rear tailgate or front grille. Perhaps the badge has been nicked? :) https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201803295050209?make=JAGUAR&radius=1500&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&postcode=sk96ld&advertising-location=at_cars&body-type=Estate&sort=sponsored&zero-to-60=TO_8&price-to=19000&model=XF&price-from=9000&page=3 There's something about the above car that doesn't sit well. The price has been reduced and the MOT expired in April, which suggests the dealer has has it for a fair while.
  7. Brilliant information. Thank you, Bill. At the risk of being shot for asking another question in my introduction, does anyone know why some Sportbrakes have the 'S' badge on the front grille (as well as the rear tailgate), please?
  8. Many thanks for that, Bill. I've been scratching my head on that one for around a week now and would never have realised what the answer was.
  9. Good morning, I'm Paul from Cheshire and I hope to be the owner of an XF Sportbrake soon. I'll need to ask for advice when I get the car, but before I do, can anyone please tell me what (S/S) signifies in some of the car listings I have seen, please? Thanks in advance. Paul.
