Restricted Performance and how I cured it

The restricted performance and engine management light has just come up on my dash.... 53 plate 4.2 s type ....Could the same thing be causing it on a V8 engined car ? -
I’ve a 4.2 s type and this message has just appeared on the dash along with the engine management light.... any ideas as to the cause? many thanks 🙏
