  1. I have left my car for extended time, 3 & 4 months, first time used a trickle charger, was in a private garage, the second in underground car park, no trickle charger.

I had no trouble and the car started and handbrake worked fine.

However you have a good point regarding the handbrake sticking, in my case the handbrake engages automatically when park is selected, and releases when I select drive, and I can release it manually (I think) depends how long you intend to leave the car I think I will consider leaving the handbrake off next time I lay up the car as I cant get a trickle charger on it I might even remove the battery and leave it in the flat on trickle charge.

  2. In my case they were not sweeping, I was trying to find a way to test if it was because there was no activation electronically or it was getting the signal and it was a mechanical or stepper motor fail.

I was hoping that the mangoose setup would test the headlamp module, but it seems that it only does a limited amount of tests, nothing like the dealers use.

I have traced my problem to the wiring, and possibly the headlamp assembly to the loom multi pin connectors.

At the moment they are working, so I will wait till they fail again to continue .

However one observation on a steep slope  the beams do not seem to move, I would have thought that they would have self levelled, perhaps the self level activation modules are stuck?

  3. I need to tell member the problem was fixed (but not solved) by disconnecting the passive alarm from under the fuse box, seems there is a rechargeable battery behind O/S headlamp that dies after the years and sets off the alarm.

One day I might install a new battery, but as the main alarm works I am not in a hurry.

Another problem fixed but not solved is the self levelling headlamps pointing down, replaced the brackets, all went well then they failed I think that this may be a wiring problem but they are working at the moment.

all other aspects car is running fine, just beginning to realise ownership is a challenging hobby, and in all my years of motoring never quite had the relationship with another car, a feeling that is hard to explain..

I am now trying to gather information of the Mangoose and DTS diagnostics so I can avoid running to the dealers.

Anyway why worry if I was not spending money on the Jag I would only waste it on stupid things like food and utility bills

    happy motoring

  4. Anyone had problems with the self levelling headlamps?

I carried out the bracket repairs on both lghts about a month ago, this was the mechanical problem of the poor quality plastic brackets replaced by a kit from eBay.

Now I have an electrical issue as the lights no longer self level, they do not go through the travel test when starting the car and remain pointed down,

any member had this problem? and solved it? if so how?

  5. Its some time since I posted this and here is the conclusion.

The none start was solved by replacing the main ECU, second hand off eBay fitted by local agents, total £300

The beeping turned out to be the passive alarm, the battery wears out and sets the alarm off, cure was to simply disconnected it, main alarm still works, battery was too much hassle and cost to replace.

Now the gremlins are attacking my self levelling headlamps!!

  6. Peter,

You will need to have the OBD error code, although I have not been impressed with these codes, seems like Jaguar have a set of extra secrete codes or something that normal OBD cant read.

If you are in the Kent area I have a reader, (not full jag) but it might be just as easy to get it done at a local garage or buy (under £15) on E-bay.

That said if the car runs fine then I think its just showing a part mis-match and the ecm needs to be reset or something.

One point seems like it take 200mile drive for these things to settle sometimes according to Jaguar.

It would be nice to have a list of codes and what was actually required to cure the problem.

    My phantom code is PO65E

    Regards

    Stan

  7. I had a similar problem, then yesterday the car failed to start, turned over normal but just wont start, I had the OBD checked and the code was PO62E (nobody seems to know that code).

I would try and get the OBD checked maybe the code will tell you something, I have a cheap reader, but I am in Ashford Kent, seems a few members own these so maybe some member near you will help, or call the AA they have them on board.

I cant find anyone that knows anything in my area, except the main ££££££agents£££££.

I understand that the 2.7 shares many parts with the ford Mondeo.

Its really a shame that there is not more member participation in listing reliable repair shops and symptoms and remedies.

My local dealer seems good but expensive, there must be people out there that can help.

fact is the electrics and electronics seem to be poorly documented, surely there must be a series of simple test to check the components or a step by step guide.

Sooner or later if you drive a Jaguar you are likely to have electronic problems, used Jags dont holdon'teir value, I am sure this is a big factor.

  9. I am sure my car has got the electrical gremlins,

    My 2005 S-type 2.7D

will not start (I have asked advice on this forum and thats on-going)

Now I get a loud beeping from the car when its parked and locked its almost like the alarm and the remote switches it off, but the normal alarm sounds the horns, this just beeps real loud.

I have had to dis-connect the battery, because when I switch it off with the remote, it starts again after 30 mins.

    Any ideas?

  10. I have a 2005 S-type 2.7D

can anyone tell me where these items are located.

Fuel filter (diesel) and do you need a fuel line release tool and if so what size. where to buy?? tool & filter

    OBD socket.

Also recently (after car was not used for 3 weeks) the engine waning lamp came on and the car went into limp home mode.

    symptoms are:-

    1)

    Engine warning light on

    ASC light on

    limp home mode.

    After key restart

    2) system seemed to reset

    after 6-10 miles

    3) Same as 1

    4) key re-start (turned over several times before starting)

Engine light on, car drove, but down on power and engine surges on acceleration (fuel starvation??)

I was also wondering what fuel consumption is average for a 2005 2.7D

  11. In Florida is standard D.I.Y to service the air-con (climate control) you simply add freon or a dye to find the leaks if any.

What type of freon does Jaguar use, I am thinking R134A or some modern Gas surely not R12.

Do they have the shrader type valve intakes? where are they located on a 2005 S-Type 2.7D

    what type of connection,

In the USA they use a standard connector, from memory I think BMW has the same type.

Why dont don'tmechanics or what do you do to top up the system.

I found out that the freon is R134A same as availble in the DIY kits

  13. As far as I know we do, :) there's a whole stack of information both technical and social on here if you take time to read it

I was referring to the posts, many readers so few replies, I was comparing to the Morgan owners (the boat not the car) ask a question there and the members rally round to solve it, I'v asked a couple of questions that I know other owners must have encountered, or is my car that unique??? only takes a few minutes to reply and it makes the site much more interesting.

  14. Can anyone explain the difference between the pre-face lift and the Face list models S-Types

also the function/reason for a small oval plate between the head lights, is it a blank for headlight washers?

I did post else where but nobody commented
