I found - what I believed to be coolant - dripping from the Ac pipe, just in front of the transmission, and behind (I think) the power steering hose, that sort of region — at the back of the largest section of the belly pan. However, I took her out recently, for a very aggressive drive, and when I parked up, there was steam(?) billowing out from the left (viewed from driver’s seat) of the engine, no coolant in the expansion tank (lol), and a shi*load of colourless, slightly viscous, scentless liquid pi**ing out of the belly pan, in the region I described previously. I decided it was normal after reading that water is naturally released from the AC system. Seams to me the engine is maybe overheating for some reason. I checked the coolant temp after said drive, and it was only around 95 celsius. I dunno, Dave 🤷🏻‍♂️

That's a weird one, never encountered that before,

Hope you manage to get to the bottom of it mate.

  2. I wasn't aware of the 2 litre having a dpf, if the last owner say's he has removed it then I would imagine he would have blanked the Egr too, It is easy to check, the dpf would be visible on the exhaust system near the front as a large canister and if it has been gutted there may be welds on it that don't look like original factory welds, I am not aware of a delete pipe but the last owner could have had one made,

also the egr would have a blank between the Egr and the manifold, there are companies that would be able to stage 1 remap the ecu, deleting the egr and dpf if it has one and also add around 30hp which makes the fueling and gear change better and making the car a lot more user friendly. I have been quoted £250 for egr delete and stage 1 mapping.

  3. I did the Mr muscle on mine when I first got her,

Drilled and tapped a hole in rear and injected a load of it in, left it for an hour while I was pulling the egr and inlet manifold to give both a good clean, I worked the actuator arm back and forth every now and then to make sure the Mr Muscle was getting everywhere.

Had no ill effects and apart from a cough, a little splutter and a load of smoke coming out, she was much better on a run and idled better too.

Handy tip for you, the folding straw cap on a wd40 can fits on the Mr muscle and makes it easier to get right inside.

  4. Thanks for the reply Marty, Yeah I'm the same when it comes to quote or reply.

The Boost hose goes from the intercooler up to the egr valve, mines in 2 peices with the sensor in between, not sure about the S types, never seen under the bonnet of one.

I'll sort a blank out ands leave everything in its place, my mot bloke is a good guy and doesn't mind it being blocked off just has to be in place.

I have to do the glow plugs before winter, I'm going to soak them for a few days before and after a journey, I heard they can be a pain,

I watched a video on you tube on how to use a kit for removing a broken one,

I have heard about the throttle body butterfly mod, haven't looked into the pro's and con's, I will do though.

Regarding your S Type, Have you found any water puddled or dripping?, I had a 4x4 once that randomly lost a little coolant on booting it, turns out I had a weep from the water pump.

I've just done a full clutch change on mine, next up is Oil and filter change then Air con recharge, after that tyres then full suspension and some bushes and lastly a wheel bearing.

After all that is done I'll book it for a remap.

    Good evening all,

Can anyone tell me if the steering wheel control module (see below) that has the voice activation/audio buttons on it, is a usual problem as mine does not work at all.

Also, can anyone tell me how to remove it from the steering wheel as I have a replacement to try to see if that works.

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

On mine the volume and other wheel works as does the source button but the voice button acts as a mute button.

I was told , If you have the blue tooth module It works and if you don't then the buttons do sod all.

Glad things are going well. Which one’s the boost hose?

I recently blanked my EGR and never looked back. Luckily, I don’t have a DPF. Also replaced one of the injectors because I was getting a cylinder 1 fault code. Still have a coolant drain/leak or maybe I don’t after the recent drain/replace — haven’t had her out enough to tell. Coolant must’ve been ancient, however, because I couldn’t even remove the undertray due to corrosion of the screws, so had to cut through the plastic to get at it.

she seems to be running a lot better now. Not sure if she’ll ever be like new, but I’m going to continue to try and get her close.

    Keep me posted.

    Thanks Marty

    Can I Ask,

When you blanked the Egr, did you use full blank or one with hole in it?,  did you get any Eml light?, Mines a 2 litre and I've had different reports, I am planning a remap and they will delete the Egr from Ecu.

I've always blanked my egr's in the past but they have been older cars and trucks.

    Hi all,

Inside the boot of my 2005 X Type saloon, there is a black plastic holder which on the left side houses the towing eye, but on the right, there appears to be something missing, can anybody tell me what it is?

    Many thanks

    Dave

I have same car and year, mine has the locking nut key in that space

Sounds similar to mine, Dave. She was serviced religiously (at Jag) by the first guy, but it looks as though the second or third (I forget how many owners she’s had) didn’t do much with her. Looks as though the last owner maybe had her in storage, or just sitting outside, for a while too. He said he’d bought an XF, which leads me to believe the S Type just sat - maybe being used occasionally - to keep her running until he sold her. Seeing as the last service record is from a year ago, and because he didn’t seem like the DIY type, I believe she hasn’t been serviced - and probably not driven much - for a year. I dunno. What I do know is that there was a lot of cobwebs, dirt, leaves and other debris under the hood and in the filters. Brake discs and pads were filthy and corroded, coolant pipe was loose and leaking, filters filthy, oil low and dirty. !Removed! me off when I saw the state of her under the hood and behind the wheels.

Having said that, even though I’ve rejuvenated her, I still feel she’s sluggish. I’m praying she’s just still half asleep and bunged up from being neglected and in hibernation, and that there’s nothing seriously wrong. I’ve emptied a million bottles of additives into the tank lol, and will continue to do so periodically, in the hope they will clear her out. Admittedly, and shamefully, however, I haven’t used her as much as I should. Need to get her on a long run down the motorway.

Hope everything goes well for you. Keep us updated. If you need any help (probably can’t offer much), just give me a shout. I’m in the North East, if you ever need a spare set of hands 👍🏻

    All the best

    Marty

    Thanks Marty

Changed the air filter and fuel filter today.

Filled the new fuel filter with injection system cleaner, done it to all my diesels, works a treat, haven't done many miles since and noticed a bit of crud coming out, hopefully will clear and run cleaner, she does sound a bit smoother, going to do a full Oil flush and change with a new decent Oil filter.

I need this motor to last a good 3 years or more.

Fed up with changing cars each year.

    Hi, Dave

Give it a good service and see if that helps. Could simply be an issue of neglect. Good oil change might fix things. If it doesn’t, however, we’ll have to investigate further 🕵🏻‍♂️

    All the best

    Marty

    Thanks Marty,

It was a one owner and did no more than 2k a year, he had it serviced religiously with Jaguar but it has stood still under its cover for 6months,

I've driven it for a couple weeks and I reckon it needs a good service,  fingers crossed it solves it, had a run of bad luck with cars and coud so with the x type being good for atleast 3years.

  10. Hi all,

Got a slight issue with 55plate 56k 2litre diesel manual.

When driving steady in any gear it seems to have a slight stutter and I have noticed it is a bit smoky from the rear, looks like a darkish grey and heavy black when on the accelerator a bit hard.

I am used to an old L200 so pretty much just blanked the Egr straight away on it and never had issues, I don't really want to mess too much with the Jag as it was running lovely until yesterday.

I not had it long and plan a good service, Oil and filter, fuel filter and air filter and pollen filter, will have a look at cleaning Egr and intake manifold and while it is off change the glow plugs.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

  11. Just a polite hello and thanks for letting me in the forum.

Just been given a 55plate 1 owner X-Type, 2litre Diesel on 55k miles, 1st Jag I have owned, always fancied getting one, toyed with either an S Type or XF or a nice XJ

Have a few bits to sort,

Passenger window sometimes doesn't quite close and whistles,

Rear door sensor playing up, bypassed it for now to stop alarm going off.

Rear parking sensors don't make a noise, I get a slight noise from each one but no beeping.

    Steering is a bit creaky.

Will be making good use of the search bar.

Once I've done these little things and a full service I hope to change the wheels for black and also change the chrome to body colour.

Also fancy getting rid of the out of date satnav and screen for a dab radio smart screen stereo with parking camera.

Gear knob needs changing where the last owner had a habit of picking the leather!

Would like to get an updated colour coded grill .

Trying to find an aftermarket supplier for bit and bobs

Just little bits to suit my taste.

I look forward to perusing the forum for ideas and information.
