  1. If you go down the Lanogard route, it needs an annual inspection and top up treatment, but it doesn't go "hard" the same as Waxoyl. N6 JMX
  2. Hi Mark, if your car is 2009, then it is an XK and NOT an XK8 - the production of the XK8 finished in 2005. Your profile photo is also of the XK - or as it was called at the launch "The New XK". Going forward, both of you above have the Jaguar model X-150 - 2006 - 2014, as opposed to the X-100, which was the 1996 - 2005 model designation. External car covers are what they are and, good or bad, they will flap around in the wind and mark your paintwork, so get a good coat of wax on the body before placing the car cover on top. N6 JMX
  3. Jim, these videos are produced via AI, not by new wizard designers. Be very careful clicking on them as you never know what is buried deep within the coding. These are threads on here about the Jaguar rebranding, just look beyond the "New Owner Introduction" tab. N6 JMX
  4. Hi Jim, you can wash the fabric top in almost the same manner as the remainder of the bodywork, i.e. with a quality car shampoo in a bucket of warm water and a microfibre mitt. I have had convertible fabric tops on my cars for a long time and, believe it it not, I do power wash the roof but obviously not using the full beans output of the power washer. Angle the flat spray so as to sweep across the top, moving the soapy suds over the top until there is no residue. Then get a clean, lint free, type cotton towel - typically an old bath towel, although a microfibre drying towel will also work, and dry the fabric by drawing the towel across the car as opposed to along the car, you will see the effect after the first sweep, but use 2 passes. I also use Meguiars convertible top protector to top up the waterproofing - it beads just like the paintwork but disappears quicker than your waxed areas. I actually produced an article for the JE magazine a few years back, which if you want to PM me with your email address, I can send you a copy. N6 JMX
  5. Hi Jim, I believe the original colour highlights within the rear badge on the XKR were not paint, but sticky back plastic, a la Blue Peter. They do lift at the corners and ultimately come off during washing. Suggest you find some suitable plastic and glue this back in place to complete the look. N6 JMX
  6. Hi Paul, welcome to the wonderful world of XKR motoring, I hope you have many happy, top down miles. The answers above are good, but my recommendation is to use the charger connected as follows: Lift the boot floor and you will see an earth connection - looks like a threaded screw coming up from the boot floor - down on the left hand side as you look forward. Ensure you remove the paint to get a proper connection to earth / ground, fit the black clip. Remove the vent louvre on the left hand side panel of the boot as you look forward and, with a torch, check inside and down for the battery remote positive cable, which should have its termination covered with a rubber boot. Slide the rubber boot forward, off the terminal and you will fit the red clip here. Ensure your charger / conditioner is on the 12V setting. and switch on. There is plenty enough "give" in the boot edge seal so that the charger itself remains outside the car, with the charging leads passing over the seal with the boot lid closed. As an aside, the usual 2 x battery conditioner's used by enthusiasts are: The CTEK MXS 5 or the Ring Automotive RA-RSC 612, both of which are suitable for 5.0 litre engines like yours. My preference is the Ring Automotive, because its LCD screen provides ongoing information on the state of your battery and it has more features. Plus the Ring Automotive unit can be switched to cater for AGM batteries - as used in Stop - Start engine systems. Please note, the battery in your car should be considered as a "Consumable" and you should be looking to change / replace when it gets to 5 years old. The car is extremely sensitive to battery condition, with a failing battery able to throw up numerous random / false dash light and messages. The battery's ability to start the car is no longer the best pointer to its condition. Enjoy. N6 JMX
  7. Hi Jim, most folks sign off with their member name (nom de plume) but your real first name should be visible in the little profile box on the left of each post. N6 JMX
  8. Send your friend to the Jaguar Classic Parts website and browse there to find his model and all of the relevant parts diagrams. Link here: Xk8 Coupe/convertible 1997 - 2006 (x100) Classic | Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts he will need to know his VIN - number in the bottom corner of the windscreen. N6 JMX
  9. How many times have you heard the story of how someone came to be enthralled by Jaguar? Having a lift to school in the back of my friend's dad's Jaguar is a typical soundbite but I don't see any of today's schoolboys wanting a Jaguar in 30 years time because he got a lift in an EV!!!!! Jaguars have soul and that comes as much from the noise it makes to the way it holds you in the seat. N6 JMX

  11. Welcome onboard, lovely looking machine - have many great drives ahead of you. N6 JMX
  12. Hi Bobby, if your car does not have a retractable antenna, then it may have the "shark's fin" which would be on the rear of the boot lid, ahead of the spoiler, on the centreline - but that would be obvious. However, I am pretty sure that the 2008 model should have the retractable antenna on the driver's side rear quarter. Check behind the internal boot trim on the driver's side - it is relatively easily to pull back to reveal what cabling is hidden in the void space, there should also be the manual pull string release for the hood operation in that space. If the base cone for the antenna is not on the outside of the wing, then it would have to have been filled in and repainted, post a photo of the rear of your car, showing the boot lid, closed, and the 2 rear wings. N6 JMX
  13. Hi Hugo, are you certain you have a "power lift" boot lid? Many jaguar's have a fob button to pop open the boot, but it is still a manual lift open and push closed. N6 JMX
  14. Hi Terry, if you plan to have your wheels refurbished by a local wheel specialist, then you can have them match the original colour, or you can have them paint the wheels in a colour of your own choice. Silver always looks better in my opinion. N6 JMX
  15. Hi Bobby, welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of Modern XK motoring. The car looks nice but as you say, it might have a few niggles. Firstly the locking issue: How are you testing the fact that the car is not locking on the fob? In your description you provide information that all of the indications of a locked vehicle are in place, but not how you know that the car is unlocked. A couple of pointers: 1. If you press the fob button twice, then you should hear a definitive clunk as the deadlock goes home, plus the car should chirp at you and the indicators flash once to indicate the car is locked and alarmed. If you are pulling the handle to check whether the car is locked immediately afterwards, then because you have the key in proximity, the car will open and therefore give the appearance of being unlocked. I know it may sound a bit dumb, but I know more than one XK owner who fell foul of that party trick. Connector in the central cubby: in the 2008 MY, the central cubby USB installation was an option, whereas in the 2010 MY, there is a USB as well as an iPod slot in that central cubby. It sounds like a previous owner may have done some work to overcome those omissions as, if it is an iPod connector (albeit for an early generation of iPod), then that can be checked relatively easily by posting a picture here, or trying to connect a suitable generation of iPod. Similarly, there were no plugs in the glovebox on your MY car, so again I think these are likely to be aftermarket additions but would not know what for, unless to use an aftermarket Satnav as the original fit Satnav is well past its use date. The radio is another question mark, you should have an extending aerial on the driver's side rear haunch - goes up when the radio is turned on and down when the radio is turned off. First check should be to confirm that the antenna does in fact extend. In some cases, owners have pulled the fuse to prevent the antenna from operating and chosen to use another device to receive their travel music accompaniment. perhaps related to the connectors in the glovebox and central cubby. A last point before someone tells you a reversing light isn't working - the 2008 cars only have a single operating reversing light, despite it looking to the outside world that there should be 2! Check and come back and I am sure more experience will be along shortly to provide you with further insight. N6 JMX
