  1. Hi Peter, Is yours a fixed one or stick on one? Not sure if S types had one as standard. Graham.
  2. Hi, Does anyone know if there are any locating holes on the underside of an XK bonnet for a 'Leaping Jaguar'? Graham.
  3. Hi, Leaving aside the debate as to whether putting the leaping jaguar on a late model car will cause it to fail an MOT. I seem to remember that models such as the S TYPE have pre-drilled holes in the under bonnet area. Does anyone know if the XK has them? Thanks. Graham.
  4. Hi Nick' Select 'Navigation'. Select 'Navigation Set up'. Select 'User Settings'. Select'Message Centre Guidance'. Hopefully this will work. Regards, Graham.
  5. Hi Andy, I've bought two satnav disc upgrades from www.satnavdvd.co.uk for both my XFS and XK, and both were just 'insert and play'. It just takes a few minutes to upload. Should be £24.99 or thereabouts. Regards, Graham.
  6. Hi, Can you get at it via the cup holder area? The rubberised twin cup holder just pulls upward (with a little difficulty), It is supposed to be pulled out for cleaning. Don't have my XF now so can't say whether it will work. Cheers, Graham.
  7. Hi, My previous car, (XF) had very robust feeling door handles with a slick movement. The XK has a very flimsy and clunky feel to them. Especially the passenger side. If you don't try to open the door from a totally head on position, it can be quite troublesome to open. You really have to exert some force. Anyone got any ideas as to how to lubricate or make the handle movement slicker? Cheers, Graham.
  8. Hi, I had green mould at the outer edges of both the reversing and rear fog light clusters. I found that by putting some bleach on a cloth and rubbing it onto the edge, a small amount went into the cluster. Then using a fairly stiff artists brush and dipping it into a small amount of bleach, just enough of the bristles would just find their way between the inner and outer layers of the cluster. This cleaned the cluster with the bleach obliterating any residue mould. Graham.
  9. Hi John. Good to hear from you again. By the way I owe you a couple pints. Losing the vibration has made the driving experience so much better. I have been looking into Independent Jaguar dealers for some time now, the nearest being 20 miles away. So, I've got to balance the close proximity and the 'pick up and collect' of the Main Dealer against distance and therefore inconveniences involved in the Independent. I think it will depend on what I want doing How long have you had your XK, and have you had any problems with it? Kind Regards, Graham.
  10. Thanks for the advice Peter. I've been to Halfords, their man connected my battery to one of theirs via jump cables. Four retaining nuts to undo plus the terminals. Pull off the leads, swap the battery, disconnect jump cables. Hey presto, No problem at all. Got an AGM battery fitted for £100 less than the Jag Dealership were going to charge for a normal one. Cheers.
  11. Hi Peter, Yes, I was wondering if an outside power source was the way around this. Graham.
  12. Hi Peter, Good to speak to you again. I'm not sure myself what may need resetting. When I had a Citroen C6 I had to take it into the dealership to have the windows reset and I can't now remember what else. The initial answer I got from Halfords was that "if you change it over quickly enough you don't normally lose anything". Hardly inspiring confidence. Graham.
  13. Have just contacted Jag Dealership for a price to fit my own (Halfords) battery, and been told "We only fit our own". So on that logic, If at a later date I took the car in for another 'job', would they not accept because they wouldn't take the battery off because it's 'not one of theirs'. Luckily I hadn't bought the battery from Halfords, but am waiting for one of their technicians to call me say whether they can categorically fit one and reset everything.!!! If he can't, I'll have to have a Jaguar battery fitted by them at a ridiculous price.
  14. If you want to know the production date of your battery, the negative terminal of a Jaguar/Varta battery has stamped on the top a code of Week No/Year. eg 36/08. Hope this is of help.
  15. After looking on the search engines, I found that on the OEM Jaguar/Varta batteries there is a Week No/Year code stamped on the negative terminal. Mine says 36/08, so it's the original battery and has lasted over 6 years. So I'm off to Halfords to get 15% off an AGM battery and probably get it fitted by the dealership. Mainly due to the resettings necessary.
  16. Hi John, Thanks for your reply. AGM batteries seem to have been developed for stop/start vehicles, are they okay the XK, and seeing as we get 15% off at Halfords can one of their 'specially trained technicians' be trusted to fit one ? Thanks, Graham.
  17. Hi John, I've no idea how old the battery is, I've only owned the car since April. The battery is kicking out 12.4v with the engine off, and 14.4v with it running. I don't think that's too bad. DoYou?
  18. Hi, A jubilant update, the car came out of Guy Salmon yesterday after having two clamps put on pertaining to Johns 'Bulletin No'. All vibrations have now gone. Deep sigh of relief and contentment and a big, no, BIG thankyou to John. The staff member at GS contacted Jaguar with the latter agreeing to pay. Not bad for a 6 year old car. So well done Jaguar. The 'Duke' is now performing as he always should have. Graham.
  19. Hi Ken, When my previous jag, an XFS told me it needed new key fob batteries, I put them in myself. Bad mistake!!! The car wouldn't lock or unlock, plus various other mishaps. I had to insert the fob into the docking station. I will now only let a dealership change batteries. Graham.
  20. Hi, After setting the memory positions of the steering wheel etc, the offside mirror regularly goes out of the 'set' position. It's always looking more outward. Is there any way of correcting this? I'm regularly having to re-position the mirror. Thanks, Graham.
  21. Hi John, Will let you know if it works. If it does, I owe you a pint or two !!! Thanks, Graham.
  22. Hi John, That's fantastic news!!! I'll be contacting Guy Salmon first thing Monday. Many thanks for your help. Graham.
  23. Hi Roy, ALDI also do a swivel headed extendable microfibre cloth window cleaner, worked a treat on my XF. Keep your eye open for when they stock it next. Regards, Graham.
  24. Hi Frank, If you're familiar with the XK60, the exhaust is finished off with chrome tailpipe finishers protruding out of apertures on the special rear valance. These are virtually rock steady, almost no play whatsoever. I've done a test for engine mounts (foot on brake,in gear and slightly revving engine in forward and reverse). The engine doesn't rock at all, so I'm now fairly confident that the mounts are okay. I've ordered the propshaft tunnel heat shield now and am wondering whether that and a stainless exhaust system will finally cure the problem (though quite expensive). GS just want to keep charging me for any work done, even though they assured me the rear heat shield was going to solve it. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just being pedantic, but the vibration is annoying. Has anyone else with an XK ever posted a similar problem? Peter, The coffee and bacon sandwich sounds yummy!!!
  25. Hi Peter, You get up early!! Both Guy Salmon and KwikFit have supposedly looked at the exhaust condition etc and found nothing. I'm going to ask GS to look at the mounts. Regards, Graham.
