  1. Hi Max, Shame I am so far away from Boston, I had a similar system of LPG conversion on a Ford Consul 2L way back in 1980 I was able to refill through work as we used LPG to fire the burners on our hot air powder drying system. But when I left I could not find enough LPG filling stations and the price was too prohibitive compared to petrol and the performance loss.

How is it on the jag have you lost any if much performance with the LPG.

  2. just over a week ago I had new front discs and pads fitted to my 2015 XJL by a local Independent Jaguar garage, there charge for the job just under £300 all in whereas Inchcape my local Jag dealership wanted to charge over £600 for the same job. So during this work the indi claimed that the from curved wishbone bushes were badly split. A few days later my car went in for its 65k service and MOT, the car passed MOT with just a remark about front tyres showing abnormal wear on the inside edge, no other issues and nothing was highlighted following the 65k service.

I would have thought that they would have  noticed if these bushes were badly split as mentioned by the Jag Indi garage, So yesterday I took the car to my tyre supplier and asked if he would check the tracking to see if this would explain the abnormal wear on inside edge of front tyres, I also asked if they could take a look at the bushes at the same time. The tracking was spot on and required no adjustment, the technician then showed me the bushes and I could not see any splitting he did mention that they were showing very slight sings of wear to be expected at 6 years old and 65K miles on the clock.

Now I am at a loss at who to believe, the Indi garage if they are right then why did Inchcape not flag up the split bushes during the service, may be I  could not see the split bushes as I was looking up from below while car was on the ramp and maybe the split is only observable with the tyre removed.

The car is driving ok, no juddering on breaking or pulling to one side the tracking has been shown to be ok and so I am not sure what to do next if anything.

  3. Hi Old Peter,

You worked at Shotton during the early late 60's to 1970 my grand farther Lionel Buck was one of the Union steward for many years fighting to keep the site open, I almost ended up working there as an apprentice to become an electrician but instead when the way of Chemistry. Was wondering if you knew or heard of my grand farther, we have a book written by Moss Evan in which he talks about my grand farther and his views on communism and the union, I think my grand farther was a bit of a communist at heart back then.

Thanks for your reply to my post much appreciated.

  4. Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies, interesting info regarding Goodyear Eagles I have not come across these and so will look at them, was hoping there might be someone out there who has tried the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres and could provide a bit of feedback on how they perform.

Thanks for the info guys much appreciated,

    Andy

  5. Hi All,

I am the proud owner of a 3.0L Diesel XJL 2015 plate have done just over 23000 miles and will be needing to replace tyres in the next 6 month or so at the rate of mileage I do which is around 1100 miles per month. At present the car has Continental Sports on and have been looking at Michelin Pilot Sport  4 tyres, also looked at some Bridgestone tyres as well. Question is what have other drives used and any recommendations.

  6. Hi All,

I too have one of these great cats, mine is the diesel variant and also has all the little extras such as rear seat screens/tables, heated /cooled seats, front seats even have the massage option and these are just great on a long journey. I managed to go from Wrexham - North Wales to the Brighton meet over the Bank Holiday break. Included some high speed M-Way driving along the way both ways and a spot of racing with 4 F-Types on the journey to Madeira Drive Brighton all on 1 tank of diesel what a return for such a big car.

I just love driving this car turns so many heads where ever we go, and the sound at high speed when you hit the pedal is great. Just wished our diesel was a bit cheaper like your petrol (gas) at 26 pence per litre I think its around £1.07 a litre at my local shell garage.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  7. Hi Steve,

Nice one and may I say well done to organise such an event, so much work has just got to have been put in to make this what looks to be a fantastic day. It will be my first ever jag meet and both the wife and I are really looking forward to the weekend. Thinks I may end up using plan B involving metal of the realm in these new fangled armless bandits  that don't pay out when you win :-).

Cheers and hope to see you during the day.

    Regards,

    Andy

  8. Hi All,

Well I finally settled on a Thinkware 750 dash cam as it has a few extras that made it a worth while choice; lane departure warning, fixed speed warnings, it even informs you about common mobile speed camera locations - cleaver that one and also you can set it up to warn if your getting to close to the car in front all very useful when your getting tired on a long journey. The cam was fitted by Dash-Witness from who I bought the unit, there engineer arrived on time and set to on the installation, he was very thorough and took great care with the car treating it with respect. The finished job looks great no wires showing any where apart from just where the cables join the main front cam, same story for the rear cam. Guy then took time to help set it up and explain how to use the cam.

Film footage so far is nothing short of perfect, the various warning are spot on especially the fixed speed cameras, you get an initial  warning about the camera then further warning as you get close, the unit even highlights the speed of the road i.e. 30 mph speed camera ahead etc. Using the phone to view recordings is relatively simple although I have two small criticisms the first is why are the recordings in 1 minute periods, surely 5 mins or longer would be better - on a long journey you are going to rack up a huge number of files. Finding a specific bit of footage is difficult due to the large number of overall recordings. I suspect however in the event of a crash the actual even is highlighted and saved in a separate file for ease of retrieval.

I am however still learning how set it up properly as there are so many different adjustments to make dependant on your cars set up, so will continue to play with the unit and try to optimise the unit and see how it all pans out down the road.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  9. Apologies for bit of a hijacking of this topic, it is related a little in that the question is about sat nav upgrading.  I have a 2016 Jaguar XJL which has as far as I can figure out a UK only mapping set up. We are planning to drive over to Spain later this year to visit the wife's sister in Calpe - which is about 45 mins north of Benidorm. I used to have  a Rover 75 which had the NavTec mapping system which I was able to upgrade with the Europe map disc and it was a simple operation i.e. just a case of inserting the CD and it was plug and play.

Is it the same with the Jaguar sat nav system, do I go out and buy a Europe mapping disc and replace the current one that came with the car, only had the  a few months now and still learning about such things as the sat nav system. Not sure even if it is a CD disc based system or it it all on the hard drive, in which case upgrading won't be a simple task I guess.

  10. Hi Joe-Dot-Com and Old_Growler,

Really appreciate the great advice and details, maybe we can catch up at the Brighton meet if you're going down there, would love to see how you have fitted these things and get a bit of first hand advice. I also take on board the question about insurance and how it could be a double edged sword, very true when you think about it..

Joe that short trailer quality was great given that it was in compressed format, I thought that would be adequate but expect the actual footage  will be even better then. I have got to be honest that when it comes to electrical issue and fitting things in the car I am a total wuz and much prefer an experienced electric installer to do the job so that I don't do any damage.

    Regards,

    Andy

  11. Hi all,

Part of the reason I am now enjoying the pleasures of an XJL is due to a recent rear end crash in my previous car which was a XF 2.2 diesel. Since then I have been looking to install a dash cam have looked around and found a few possible models one I particularly like is a model called the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH which has both a forward and rear facing cam units. My question is has anyone experience of these units and how easy are they to fit to the Jag electrical system especially the newer models which have so much in the way of electronic systems in them.

Cheers and hope to catch up with some of you at the upcoming meet in Brighton.

  12. Hi all,

I have a 2015 Jaguar XJL 3.0 Diesel which I believe should have two turbo's? On looking at a number of images of the engine bay I notoce all appear to have two turbo's however looking at my own car I appear to only have the one turbo? I figure this out as I only have one box on the RHS of the engine as you stand in front looking to the rear of the car. I am assuming the box is the air intake filter. All other images show two with twin air input pipes going to the engine. How can I tell if I  do indeed have a twin turbo engine? Or am I being a total numpty here, but my engine does not look anything like those in the many images of engines I have looked at so far.

The car goes well enough for it's size/weight etc. but it does baffle why my engine bay is so different from those I see on line.

    Andy
