  1. The 'bolt-on' tuning boxes fool the ecu into believing the fuel pressure is low and simply put more fuel in. On turbo-charged cars that's not complemented by an measured increase in air from the turbo pressure being increased as the ECU thinks everything is as it should be. As a result, you'll likely get a cloud of black diesel smoke in your rear view, a clogged DPF if you have one, a catalytic converter full of soot and a clogged EGR valve. The box may only cost £70 but the resulting (damage is the wrong word) will cost you much more in the long rung. I will be using these in the very near future to remap my 2.2 X-Type - www.celtictuning.co.uk
  2. On a motorbike forum I frequent, someone asked how to remove the sticky residue that a tank-pad had left behind. Same thing, the usual stuff wouldn't shift it. Someone suggested bog-standard furniture polish....and it worked perfectly with the added bonus of polishing the paint at the same time!
  3. Mine is exactly like that. Bought it like it so I assumed it was either a fault, which I wasn't fussed about that much, or that is how they are. When I adjust the brightness with the knob on the headlight switch panel, there are sections of the 'turn' where the displays flicker, so I just assumed it to be a fault. If they should be the same, then I'll do some digging in the dashboard!
  4. My 2005 X-Type has bluetooth. It's the climate model not the touchscreen.Blue tooth works perfectly with my phone, but I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to get bluetooth to work for media as well so as to play music through the sound system via bluetooth? Are there any upgrades/changes that I can get to do this? Cheers in advance

  6. I just bought a 2005 2.2D Sport. Best thing about it? Low rev grunt! It flies past pretty much anything and up any hill. I've owned some pretty serious cars in the past, Supra Turbo etc, but this is the best yet. Power, refinement, high speed cruising and quality spec coupled with 50mpg! And peoples expectation of the price of it is waaaayy over what it really is!
  7. Picked it up tonight. Gave a huge grin factor on the drive home! Glad I bought the 2.2 and glad I went for the Sport model too
  8. Cheers for that. I found a 2.2 in Derby and picked it up tonight. I too was after the Estate but struggled to find a good one without a 200 mile trek to see it so bought the saloon, which I prefer the look of anyway. So glad I went for the 2.2 as I was contemplating the 2.0 but decided it would only be a compromise for me so waited. Also glad I got the Sport model too. It's a fanatic drive and really gave me the grin factor in the 60 mile drove home!
  9. It's not perfect, but then what 8 year old car is? Needs new front discs, one alloy tidying up a little, two rear tyres and a couple of minor scuffs T-Cutting out but apart from that it's pretty sound. For the money, I really can't complain!
  10. Said I would post photos of my new Jag, so here it is
  11. Thanks Trevor, much appreciated. Just downloaded it and will digest it tomorrow. Cheers, Mick
  12. My twopenny's worth on the tyres front - I was recommended to BF Goodriche by a tyre fitters I have used for 22 years. I fitted them to my Toyota Supra 3.0 Turbo which was tail happy to say the least! The transformation, especially in the wet, was astronomical! From a car that would drift exiting a roundabout as soon as the turbo spooled (It was 385bhp!) to one that needed the clutch dumping to get it to break traction in the wet!!! Needless to say, I won't fit anything else! I was recently quoted £79 each for 225/45 17's and at that price you cannot go wrong. My last car, a Vectra V6, was shod in them and could outrun many a sports car on wet twisties. They are simply astounding in the wet and the dry cornering is exceptional too. I managed just over 25000 miles in the Vectra on a set of BFG's and it was driven accordingly (wink wink). My X-Type (when purchased in the next few days hopefully!) will be treated to a set of BFG's asap! Try them. I will guarantee you won't be disappointed and will probably change for life
  13. Hi all, A bit premature here as I'm not yet an X-Type owner, but will be in the next few days/weeks. My question - I'm going to view a 2007 2.2 Sport saloon at the weekend. I'm quite experienced with cars and mechanics so feel free to use non-laymans term, I'll know what you mean. What are the most common things to look for on these models? I know how to spot a re-spray and dodgy maintenance history etc and have repaired my own vehicles all my life from spark plugs to engine & gearbox rebuilds so I know what I'm doing with a toolkit, but really want to know what actual owners have found with their vehicles. Many thanks in advance. When I figure the site out, I'll post a picture of my new pride & joy (When I find it!) Mick
