  1. I came out of the bathroom on Saturday morning to find my wife had picked up my clothes and stuck them in the washing machine. Like any sensible woman she checked the pockets (not) which contained the keys to the CLK which was parked at the front of the drive.

Frantically, with someone coming over from Paris to collect my Son's car for which he had sold there I got the hair dryer out and kept a constant heat on the fob (we do not have a spare fob). Stuck the key into the ignition and it was not recognised. Panic stations called the RAC who retrospectively sent out a local recovery agent (Celtic Recovery) in all fairness he was not long attending and loaded my CLK on to the recovery vehicle and took in down to my parents house where there is a spacious drive. During this time the key fob was in my pocket.

Whilst unloading the vehicle the alarm went off a couple of times and we tried the key fob again. On this occasion it was recognised and the car started and we could drive it off the back of the recovery vehicle. I assumed the fob had dried out with the heat in my pocket ha ha.

I decided to leave the car there until Sunday evening not needing it until Monday for work. However on the way to work Monday the steering did not feel right so I took the car into National tyres (I know the chaps there quite well) and they put it on the ramp for me. The pillock who rescued my vehicle had place his hooks on the track rod arms and now they are banana shaped.

The RAC want me to pay for the damage to be repaired myself until they can investigate the issue which can take up to 20 days. I will be going through the Courts, It was the RAC who employed this company therefore, it is the RAC who is responsible for the damage in my mind and I truly believe the Judiciary would hold in my favour. The Judiciary look at matters through reasonability and would ask the question is it reasonable to expect a recovery company to be professional and know where they can and cannot hook up to on a vehicle. The car is supplied with an eye bolt which should have been employed for the task.

    Whats the members opinions

Following the threat of legal action through the County Court for damages the Recovery Company have responded with the fact that they will come and collect my car (its unsafe to drive) and if they believe the damage was caused by themselves then they will repair it at no cost to me. I will also be expecting two new tyres.

Furthermore, the RAC following legal threats have called me to advise that a hire car is on its way to me at no cost. I hope its not a Fiesta or the likes it won't compare to the CLK

  2. Happy Birthday Trevor, hope you have a great day. I've had a letter from the Benefits Agency advising me that due to the change in the law I cannot now retire until I've reached the grand old age of 67. Fortunately or more Unfortunately due to a serious industrial accident many years ago I have been deemed by the Medical Professors as being 45% disabled therefore, I believe I can retire a little earlier on medical grounds and my Mine workers pension which came out when I reached the age of 50.

  3. Hi Chris, Croeso (Welcome in English  ) I like the look of the S Type reminds me of the old Mk.2 which of course was a icon and it sounds as if you have a lot of car for the money what can you get for £600? wow.

If you have checked the fuse on the cig socket and its OK then check if there is voltage at the socket by using a voltage tester with positive probe at the socket and neg probe at a known good earth, if voltage is shown then use the neg probe at the socket. Its quite common on cig sockets to loos its earth

  4. I think you will find 1 of the sensors as gone. Have someone sit in the car and place in reverse with their foot on the brake whilst you kneel down and listen to the sensors 1 at a time. If you hear it clicking its fine if not then its likely that its gone. If 1 sensor is gone then the parking sensors will not work, they work / wired through a daisy chain style system. Hope this helps.

  5. Not the Jaguar, I've only owned the XKR for 2 weeks therefore, early days yet. However I did remap/chip my SLK32 (AMG) Mercedes and experienced a good increase of power and the limiters where taken off going through the gear changes etc giving a greater acceleration. I did not get any problems with it.

  6. Parked up at Shobdon Airport Herefordshire today where I was working.

Guess the car Manufacturer  :D  Note the multi=spoke wheels, they were really made out of wood.

    What Is It [2]

Not sure yet? The single back light really did have an Oil container or candle holder. How engineering have progressed.

    What Is It [3]

    Want another clue?

  7. That must be the difference between the XK and the XKR, Kenny -- the supercharger! I never research the XK as I had made my mind up to get an S type  ---  need rear seats for the grandchildren.

I just have the humble 2.7 diesel in my S Type which is surprisingly quick, especially when the second turbocharger cuts in.

The advantage is the 53 mpg I got on an 85 mile trip on Monday

    Regards,

    Peter.

Know exactly what you are saying Peter I've also got an Oil burner Mercedes CLK270 Cdi and that gives me a 50+ return to the gallon and thats with a turbo, pretty rapid car actually

  8. Thanks for that Peter, I'm even more confused now you see, I was under the impression that the XKR had a 4.0ltr engine I cannot consult my log boo because its with the DVLA having my private registration (hence forum name (KEN 33Y) transferred across from my Merc.

However, I have just researched auto trader and the XKR is being advertised as 4.2 supercharged not 5.0ltr which appears to have come out in 2006 as an XKR-S I may be wrong.

Was the difference between the XK8 and the XKR being the supercharger?

  9. You may find help here;

    http://upkeep.us/OBDII/OBD2/Jaguar/piart.php?art=5064

This is supposed to be a list of the full Jaguar fault codes however, P1620 does not appear in the list

    http://www.engine-light-help.com/jaguar-check-engine-light.html

    Apparently in the X and S type there are fault codes built in to the instrument cluster, you will fns an explanation in the link below;

  10. Hi Gary, I'm also a recently new member having bought an XKR following my brother buying the new F Type. I have to sell my beloved SLK32 now which I have owned for 11 years (only 52,500)  genuine) on the clock.

I must admit the XKR has bags of power at 400+bhp but the 32 appears just as quick. The 32 don't have as much bhp butter being lighter I think its giving a false impression.

It was a close call between the XKR and a SL55 but the Jaguar came along and stood out

  11. Yeah that's good to hear, is it the only jag you got, or are the other two jags (if you don't mind me asking)

Yeah would be a good place have to see if anyone else would be interested

    Ant

The only Jaguar I've got Ant and the only one I've ever owned. I've still got the SLK32 and the driveway hosts the Son's Lotus Exige and her indoors MX5 also my work ride CLK270 Cdi

  12. Glad to hear you got it sorted, you should have done the lottery that night being as your luck was in to still have the tool attached after 160 miles, guessing it was all motorway miles though, just keep an eye on them though as some scumbags will try anything to mess with someone's pride and joy

I Know what you are saying however where I live you don't get any such problems. The car will be asleep for 4 months in October! only t out to play in good weather sunny sky's etc, we have another two cars for shopping and the like Yes it was all motorway for the instance home except for the last four miles, we live on the A4059 the road Hammond uses for his test drives in Top Gear. Would make a good location for a Jaguar meet
