I am trying to obtain a Certificate of Conformity for my 2010 french registered XF

Jaguar can supply one at a price but require photographs of of 3 different vin number locations. lower windscreen, lhd driver door jamb showing weights and what they describe as stamped into chassis. First two no problem but I cannot find any VIN number stamped into any obvious part of exposed chassis.

I would be grateful for any guidance.

    Thanks

    Dave

    Does this help:

  2. I recently changed my diesel S type fuel filter, the only problem I had was priming it afterwards.( The car was cranked about three times before it ran ok) I later found out take the exit pipe off, then put a length of pipe on the filter and bleed,by turning the ignition on,into a jar or old milk container, easier with help than on your own depending on the length of pipe used.

  3. Have you tried phoning part suppliers for example

    https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwin5uu_4P_NAhWsC8AKHaYsDlYQFgg7MAU&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.turnerengineering.co.uk%2Facatalog%2F2.7-TDV6.html&usg=AFQjCNERFqytfAg0OsLrB6R85l4a_0khRw

and asking if it's possible? (Not Jaguar parts but they may know)

Years ago I changed big end bearings on a Fiat 125 Twin cam, but had to remove a cross member to get the sump off.

    Hi Amal

Hopefully your car now stays fit and healthy!

In Regard to the noise from the steering wheel, mine does have a slight noise almost a squeak, as if rubber is rubbing against a polished surface (I hope that makes sense?) it does not bother me one bit, as its very quiet, in fact it sounds reassuringly tight, as if brand new, the noise comes from the top of column just were the dust cover disappears under the dash

Whilst on the subject of strange stuff, does anyone ever get the sensation of the accelerator pedal tapping the bottom of your foot? its intermittent, and no rhythm to it, and quite gentle, but it does feel like something is tapping the underneath of the pedal. Weird...

    Regards

    Steve

I get that, especially over rippled parts on roads, it feels like the pedal is loose :w00t:, as you say ....weird

  5. No you should definitely not buy one.... they are psychotic beasts that will try to kill you any time you take off the traction control and there is no way you can accelerate more than an inch down in the wet unless you leave the lifesaver mode on.  And you have to enjoy the twitch-slide on kickdown at 70mph in the dry. Instant speeding ticket machine :wallbash:

But you have had some other interesting machines, and it does leave a massive permanent grin any time you drive it...... and it goes round corners with a certain elegance... I'd say go for it  - expect around 45k for a 2012, worth every penny :yahoo: thumb.php?api=SYNO.PhotoStation.Thumb&method=get&version=1&size=large&id=photo_436172732f323031362d30362d31322050726573636f7474_323031362d30362d31322031342d33372d33362e4a5047&rotate_version=0&thumb_sig=2f766f6c756d65312f70686f746f2f436172732f323031362d30362d31322050726573636f74742f323031362d30362d31322031342d33372d33362e4a5047&mtime=1465892930

Apologies to OP for off topic, is the picture taken at the Prescott hill climb?

  6. Whilst waiting to turn into the road where I live, I spotted a 52 plate S type coming down the road, as he got close I waved and got a wave back .... first one, here's to many more. [emoji122] [emoji122] [emoji122] [emoji636]

  7. I have a automatic 55 plate diesel...the one with the down-turned exhaust pipes.  I have had diesels for years now, a series of Vauxhauls, Citroens and Skodas and the S-Type beats them all into a cocked hat in terms of performance, smoothness and noise etc.  You can barely tell it's a diesel and it has bags of grunt.

Interesting to see the fuel economy people are getting.  Maybe I have a right foot made of lead because I get around 33mpg on average with maybe 35 to 36 on a motorway run.

I also get around 30 to 33 with mine, best was 37 mpg on the motorway.[emoji33]

  8. Sometimes there are regrettable occasions when a Moderator has to ban someone for infringing the rules of the Club, such as spamming, unseemly posts etc.  On the good side they are few and far between.

However, I do wonder why members who have been banned keeping visiting the Club Forums just to read what is going on?

    I really do wonder why.

    Peter.

Trolls exist on all forums unfortunately, over on one of the Rover forums I frequent there seems to be a clique of people who's only intention is to disrupt. Once they get banned they reappear under a new identity and start all over again.[emoji35]

  9. I had this problem a few weeks ago, the fault was under normal acceleration DSC fault came up with restricted performance, if I accelerated very gently there was no problem. The fault disappeared after a few days, maybe down to a number of ignition on/off cycles? I had it checked by my local garage and the only fault they found was a miscommunication between the traction control and the abs (not sure they were the two units involved), the fault was cleared and the car is fine now. It was also suggested at the time (on this forum ) that it could also be a wheel sensor causing the problem.

  10. My S type has Pirelli P Zero's all round which I find very good, in the past on my Rover I had Goodyear efficient grips which I liked very much and will buy when required for the S type. They're not the cheapest tyres to buy, but I firmly believe in buying a known good brand as I often have my grandchildren in the car.

  11. Hi

Recently purchased a 2009 X Type love the car and love how it drives, only one niggle following a long journey on the motorway there seems to be a humming / whining noise from the rear, only really noticeable at around 60-70 mph. Any ideas.

Check the tyres, if they are worn they can sometimes cause noise. I had this on a Rover 75 the tyres were close to the limit and were like a fifty p piece!

  12. This topic has been aired before, but as the SERVICE REQUIRED IN 1650 MILES came on this morning, I thought it might be useful to repeat it.

    1. With ignition key in the OFF position, press down the CLEAR/RESET button. [Trip Computer]

    2. Turn on ignition and release the CLEAR/RESET button.

    3. Press down and hold down Trip button on left stalk and press down CLEAR/RESET button.

4 . Continue to hold down both buttons  and the message SERVICE MODE RESET  should appear after about 10 seconds when the reset is complete.

If you have been fast enough  --  3 seconds to do 1, 2, and 3. that is job done.  If it doesn't, try again.  I do it every year or more and Have only got it done once first time.

If you go to a dealer and ask him to clear it, he might do it for nothing, or he might blind you with science about needing to plug it in to the Jaguar Diagnostic system, get you a free cup of coffee, keep the car for 25 minutes and charge you £70.

Strangly I had this message appear this morning, now cleared, so a very fortuitous post for me. My thanks for posting Peter.

PS It only took me five attempts [emoji15]

  13. Further update,

Only one fault stored, miscommunication between traction control unit and something I've forgotten. Only £30 including VAT so happy with that. So I still will replace the battery as I think it had something to do with it originally.

    Happy motoring all.

  14.

    Update:

Got the car booked into my local garage, popped down last Monday to book it for this Monday (11th) to put it on the diagnostics. As of Wednesday fault has not returned and the car is now back to full power :yahoo: hopefully it was a dirty sensor. I am still going to get it checked on Monday though, I was going to change the Oil soon so I might as well give them the Oil, air, fuel and cabin filters and get them to do it whilst they check the suspension bushes on the ramp.

  15. Further information whilst driving to Mum's, if I apply throttle gently there's no error, heavy throttle  instantly brings DSC error. So I stop, switch off, restart all ok again until hard (ish) acceleration. With no DSC error I can gently accelerate up to about 70 but car feels under powered, so I'm thinking maybe fuel or would it still be wheel sensors as it's a traction control issue?

Mine does the same, the message comes and goes. Been told by my local garage that its speed sensor on one of the rear wheels.

Thanks for that, it makes sense now as that is the only error I get, so I'll hold off on the battery for now.

  17. "DSC not available" I have had this message several times now, then it says " limited performance only". Stop the car, switch off then restart and it's ok for a while. I did notice last night that the car seemed to be running hot, as it was pinging and creaking (exhaust) as it cooled on the drive and did smell hot.

I am changing the battery today as I believe it's the original with 07 stamped on the neg terminal. So my question is do I need a code for the sat nav screen or shall I put my power pack on the leads and keep the car powered up?
