  1. Hey GARY, guessing the premium sound? Firstly do you have the touchscreen nav already in the car? If yes your ok and my comments are relevant. 4 premium speakers with built in tweeters.( there are 2 small badges with the speaker brand that fit onto the 2 front speakers....not a necessity but complete the look). 2 bass speakers for rear parcel shelf ( shelf may need replacing) 1 amp for rear boot compartment 1 new d2 optical lead. think that covers the parts. Fitting them is not too difficult but thankfully I had a couple of experts helping. It really is a worthwhile retrofit. The sound is so much better than a standard system and at volume is much clearer. Hope that helps. steve
  2. Well Saturday morning...big yawn and stretch .....jump in car and drive to see paul Raistlin and Dennis in birmingham. First order of the day......strip car and install speakers.....amplifier and Dennis got to remove the rear shelves and fit new ones with the speakers. All went well and I think all was done in not much over an hour and a half. Quick test....quick adjustment and all good. The premium sound is absolutely stunning...much better than the standard system. Much clearer...much more depth in tone...and yes it is louder if you want that sort of thing. Part 2 of the mission....Paul to plug in the laptop and tell the car the Bluetooth phone and the CDC were actually there and to allow voice activation.......bit nervy at one point but mission successful! All done in a matter of hours for everything!!! we have now installed totally voice activation from scratch and the premium sound and also the Bluetooth phone..... all the obvious retrofits I wanted when I bought the car. I didn't even know these things could be done. Huge thanks to the main man Paul for the help with these projects and also thanks to Dennis for helping the projects along. Really appreciate you giving up your time to help and advise on this. It's obvious you both love the s type and are passionate about helping others! Now then gents........next project in the pipeline. Be safe....and thanks again.
  3. Just taken it out again paul, its not in my head.....it is definitely better in every way. The acceleration is now back , it feels more responsive on the throttle and it seems smoother. I was sure the problem was the egr valve as I had a similair issue on my old diesel range rover and I must admit the drive now bears out my initial conclusion. must admit I'm glad I didn't have to strip it down....this is a much better way to solve the problem and I will definitely pencil this on the maintainance schedule to be done regularly to keep the engine running as it should. All in all very pleased at the outcome......thanks to all for the interest and input. steve
  4. Peter, thats great....but please don't shout. Managed to get it by undoing the securing bolt and wiggling things a little. Done as instructed and all back and clean. Not sure if it's my head playing tricks but took it for a drive and seems more responsive and smoother to drive. Will nip out again later and see if it's the same. If my mind isn't playing tricks on me.....what a difference cleaning the system has made. If it's right...I will log this on my regular schedule to keep it tip top on performance and running. thanks to all for assistance...it's always good to know we can all look after each other. Steve
  5. Peter, was starting the operation when spotted an issue. The lid won't come off the box in situe....you have to disconnect all ancillary bits just to take the box out , to remove the filter , and when you put it back in....the lid will not lift to get access! anyone know how this is done? to remove the whole system....to ultimately not have access to spray seems odd..but if I don't ask...I don't learn.... steve
  6. Hi Pete, lovely.....sounds simple enough. Can't borrow a 9 year old so will use the stick method! will update when done. Appreciate the simple instruction...thanks. steve
  7. Peter, daft question......how did you do it? I know the egr cleaner is an option worth looking at... But I guess there's a knack to it to maximise the cleaners use...and I'm guessing the spray was useful resolving the problem? would appreciate a pointer steve
  8. Paul, new you'd get me....if I had one mate I'd share it with pleasure. You know it's often best to ask people as there is a wealth of experience on the forum. its not a job I relish doing....always wary that an issue may cause a problem. peters logic is good....so that may be an option if he will tell me how he did it. Rest assured if I do tackle the job I will take some snaps and do a write up so I can share the experience. steve
  9. Hi Paul, good to hear from you. That would be perfect......guessing you know where to find one? Appreciate pointing to it if it's possible. be safe steve
  10. Hi David, appreciate the pic. Looking at it the layout is very similair with the other end going into the air box. I'm sure it's easy...it's certainly a job I've done before but each car has its own issues and slightly different techniques. There are loads of videos on the web but not for the s type. will probably give it a try during the week unless I'm told otherwise by others on the forum. As they say...if you don't ask...you don't find out...you don't learn! take care and thanks again steve
  11. Gents following on from my discussion recently....can anyone point me in the direction for instruction to remove/clean the egr on the 2.7 diesel. well within my ability but a guide is a help. regards steve
  12. Cheers Steve, was just concerned because I didn't want one from Taiwan as the quality is poor. Will take a look. sure I will find the right one. regards steve
  13. Guys, an s type passed me today with what looked like a type r spoiler fitted and to be honest I second looked it and it looked great. The standard flat boot spoilers just don't look right but this one did. It's now sparked my next project and it's simply for aesthetics. anyone know where they can be sourced? eBay doesn't seem to have them. Any advice greatly appreciated steve
  14. Hi adam, funny you should mention night driving..that's when I first spotted mine! egr is the first port of call...can't do any harm to give it a clean. I have noticed she's running rich so will look t that as well. Dont mind a little smoke on the old girl but it never hurts to ask and learn to save any small issues becoming big ones. cheers steve
  15. Cheers andy as I said it's only a new issue ....normally runs great with no smoke at all. Will give it a try....can't do any harm. thanks
  16. Andy im guessing you mean petrol or diesel? diesel....2.7 turbo
  17. Gary, The Bluetooth option is superb....as I've had it fitted by paul Raistlin and I've had no issues at all. voice is also something I did not have but now have partially and again it is great if you like gadgets. It is something you will use more than you think if you have it. paul is a fountain of knowledge on both subjects and will be of great help. good luck and please update if you proceed as its a subject many are interested in. steve
  18. Morning gents, Have noticed over the last few days that when I accelerate hard or even firmly there is smoke from the exhaust. I've never had this issue before and , whilst it's not too bad, it's irritating. It smokes in puffs....like an old steam train then settles when gentle acceleration is used. It does not smoke at all on idle ...there are no warning lights...and other than a slight lack of acceleration ( which may be me worried to put my foot down) all is well. wasnt sure if it may be valve oil stem seals starting to let excess oil through but it's always better to ask before it becomes an issue. would really appreciate some pointers gents as an idea of how to proceed. Thanks in anticipation steve
  19. Glad to see your having fun with the diagnostic software.....the rate your going you'll be an expert in no time! Dont forget to practice with the software that adds retrofit items for the voice commands....I'm still needing to add a few that aren't on ie phone and multi disc. Hope alls well and be good paul. Steve
  20. Well done that man.....always at it. 😀
  21. David, Welcome to the forum....it's a great place to chat and get advice and I'm sure you'll enjoy the many chats and discussions. ive only recently got my first s type despite being a regular jag owner with Xjs , xj6 being my previous babies. The 2.7 is a cracker with the usual refinements you'd expect and good mpg. It also helps that when you need it drives like a stabbed rat and is no slouch. Hope you have fun with the group and we look forward to your contributions. Steve
  22. Thanks paul, yes im being gentle ....at least I admit I'm a little heavy handed at times. Thanks for the list....I can start chasing bulbs without breaking or bleeding! will hopefully source new bulbs and fit them shortly......then if it looks right post a few pics. Fingers crossed my colour choice is right! Be good and take care Steve
  23. How did you possibly know I was having issues with those bulbs? Have you fitted a camera in my car?......lol. am on the case paul.....trying not to get frustrated with the fiddly bits and checking the bulbs ready to source. Still hoping for a list of bulbs to make my life easier. Thanks for the assist.
  24. does anyone know where I can source a list of interior bulb types and quantities? Started digging through the interior and have, as usual, got frustrated trying to get at the bulbs....even managed to stab myself with a screwdriver! looked in the owners handbook and can't seem to find anything. appreciate any assistance
  25. Hi Damon and welcome to the cat. ive had a few issues with mine since I got it in late Feb but as I'm sure you know all cars have there issues. That said I've started to really love mine.....and even though she gets her claws out occasionally and scratches ...she's worth it! The forum here has some great members with vast experience across the board and they help when they can with advice and the like. You'll also find a lot of upgrades and retrofits are available if you search the forums. I can't stop adding bits when someone mentions they have done something. Hang in there....she's worth it and welcome to the forum. Steve
