  1. Hi Bill

i too get Handbrake Fault and Gearbox fault messages more regularly recently. If I switch off ignition remove key and start again it clears the message, sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts. But like you say car drives fine. I tend to wait until all lights on dash go out before I turn to ignition.

    mine is 2004 2.7d auto S Type

be interesting to hear other views

    best regards

  2. Gentleman,

Using Claws suggestions I now have a working remote fob! I think it was No.2 that worked, the main beam option, Claws I can't thank you enough! This has saved be a considerable amount of money. I can't believe this is not made known by jaguar

    many thanks again my friend

    Bill W

  3. Thanks Ron, I appreciate your response, yes please keep me posted, sounds like you have the same problem. I think there is a company here in Ireland that might be able to help. Likewise I'll keep you informed

    best regards Bill

  4. Hi guys, I've had the Catmobile serviced locally all is well. Problem with aircon remains, it has been checked and temp. at low and high levels are fine and no leaks. Still only warm air emitting from vents, so it's been suggested it's the aircon compressor. Does that stack up with you guys?

Any suggestions for fuel additives and how often for the S type 2004 2.7d auto?

    hope you are all well

    regards

  5. Thanks Peter, Im putting the car into a local garage soon for a general service, they mentioned re gassing, i noticed in a journey the other day when I had been driving for an hor or so the dashboard around the cockpit was very warm, eg the plastic in front of dials and around the centre console. I'm hoping this is not an expensive fix!!

Thanks for taking time to help

    best regards,

    Bill

  6. Hi thanks all for your help. I'm still no further forward. I looked under bonnet today, dangerous, I know zero about engines. I asserted that water in Coolent tank was very hot as were pipes around it. I could not get filter cover off, large rectangular filter on right side of engine. Also the water in tank was clear, cover said use orange coloured liquid?

any more thoughts? I may take it to garage next week when I'm home again, but would rather go with a semblance of knowledge.

    thanks in anticipation

    Bill

  7. Thanks Steve, a friend mentioned this too, he also suggested poosible issues, air con filters. is this the same as cabin or pollen filters? Is it a good idea to buy filter pack on line and have mechanic fit them, or would they not be genuine Jaguar parts?

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm loving this forum, good feeling to be 'part of' apart from concern over heating I'm loving my Cat!

    Best regards

  8. Hi again,

This issue with heating/aircon is still a problem. I'm getting no cold/cool air from the vents at all. Even set to 17.5c its warm air. When Lo is selected and auto kicks in it blasts out hot air!

    HELP!! Any suggestions folks

    Many thanks

    Bill

PS less of an issue, the CD changer doesnt work........ what should I check?

  9. Hello all,

I'm beginning to wonder if I've bought someone else's headache. Tonight in a very short run the heating would not reduce, even with AC on, only hot air from vents. I did sit in car for about 40 mins idling whilst familiarising myself with manual.  Then engine off for around 20 mins. It was on restarting I noticed heater issue.

    regards

  10. Hello all,

Thank you for the warm welcome and help re DPF which I believe my June 04 S type does not have!! Phew! One other little thing ive noticed, sometimes, not always in reverse I get a constant high pitch sound, its not the parking sensor. Doesnt always happen. though today reverse park sensor did not pick up a wall, thankfully I did. Any thoughts?

So far really enjoying my Cat, looking forward to the weekend and getting her out onto the road for a drive!

    regards

    Bill

Welcome aboard Bill, good to have you here with us

    I see you're in Derry, not LondonDerrry....lol

I spent many a good time over there in the North ( all over ) in Armagh, Strabane ( used to stay at the Fir Trees ) Derry, Portrush and Belfast.......beautiful country, great people, very akin to the Scots and had some great craic.

If you have the DPF, a lot of short short and stop / start journeys can result in failed regens causing excess fuel to dump into your oil. As stated so longer runs when you can to try and avoid this, but most importantly keep an eye on your oil level and do it REGULARLY

If this happens you generally get a service message but don't rely on this, I have the same engine in my XJ and I do around 3-4 oil changes per year and only every get it topped off around just under halfway to allow for this.

+1 on the battery, these cars don't do well on old / weak or failing batteries and can throw up a lot of weird issues, check yours ( may be original or 2nd battery ) and deffo worth looking at and or depending, possibly changing depending on how long you are going to keep the car. At least bear it in mind.

    Hi Jim,

Yes I live in the Derry side, lol tho I'm a Scotsman from Barrhead, not too far from you.

Peter, moderator tells me DPF not fitted to S type until 2005, mine is June04, so I should be OK. Thanks for the checklists.
