High all

Just picked up my xtype today after having the n/s damper sorting, or so I thought. It turned out that that though it was not this after all after closer inspection and them test driving the car, the rattling noise is coming from the back, it's the back box on the exhaust. I contacted the dealer to advise him and he told me that this was not covered on the warrenty, I can understand this, but the problem I have is that when I test drove the car the rattle was there and he promised to have it repaired, he then informed me that his mechanic had found a stick/twig had got caught under the car. Not having noticed the rattle straight away due to having the ac on and the hot weather, I never herd the noise again until a couple of weeks later, when I was driving with the windows down. My question really is should he be paying or is it just one of those things and down to me.

Look forward to hearing your views

Thanks

Andrew

andrew i would call your local trading standers every council has one. see what they say. if you paid by cash you might have a job forcing him to budge. if by card or on hp you could go down the line of rejection ie. not fit for the purpouse . call trading standers see what they say. but i would call the dealer 2mora tell him you want it fixed se wat he has to say. he sounds a sllipery gitt. if hes not going to fix it tell him your going to trading standers for as far as your concernd he has sold you a car not fit for purpouse. frighten the bugger. let us know how you get on. charlie

Thanks for that, I already tried before I left the garage. The only good things are the garage has reduced his price to replace the Back box as they felt sorry for me I think, Another good thing they have been servicing my old car and the wife's for the last 3 years.

Andrew,

Stealershps are bunch of rogues that will fleece you left right and centre .

I would go down there and have a really good argument with them , then whatever the outcome, in future I would use an independent garage, which are cheaper, more honest, and more reliable reliable .

Here is a list:

He is a small car dealer. But I will be taking advice

by the sound of it basicly your left with it mate if you dont push it. hes bought the car prob from another customer of his and baicly if he has to do the work on yours then its eating into his profitts, so you have two choices if you got a good deal then take it on the chin and walk away. if you wer robbed then take him on

Thanks Charlie, I will call him tomorrow and see what happens

try it mate see wat happens. we are a good bunch on here. always glad to help a fellow jag owner charlie

Andrew, unfortunately due to the time period of you not noticing the noise was still there the dealer may argue that its a new rattle caused by wear and tear whereas the original rattle was resolved. He/She may say where have you been until now? Six of One half a dozen of another mate down to experience
