Just joined the forum as I have a question I hope a member may be able to help with.

I have a 2004 3.0 Sport and wondered if the reflectors (all 4 corners) ever changed over time?

I need to replace these and can see a set from a 2002 and didn't want to buy if they wouldn't fit.

Just as a bit of history. I bought my s-type at the beginning of Sep 14 and have only been able to drive it for approx. 3 weeks as the gearbox decided to pack up. This is now being re-built at a cost of over £2k, which luckily I don't have to pay and the parking sensors seem to have a mind of their own (during the short time I have been able to drive the car). Apart from that all ok!

To be honest I love driving the car but am not impressed at this stage of ownership. Please tell me it gets better!!

So I'm still driving my modified BMW E30 (325i Touring) which seems, at this juncture, a better car!!

Anyway, moaning aside I'm looking forward to getting the Jag back so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Shaun and welcome to the club.

The s type had a face lift around that time and I would check it out carefully to see if your car was pre or post facelift.

The experience does get better and I think in over 55 years of driving my s type is the best car I have ever had.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks for the reply. Hope you're proved right with the s-type!

Do you know how I would tell if pre or post facelift?

Thanks

There were several face lifts for the s type, with the earliest [other than the one that got rid of the Mondeo clone after three months] one being the interior and minor external changes, and another in 2005/6.

Add to that, some dealers did sell some that were pre facelift after the post facelifts came out. -- the years and plates were different and you can't go my them.

However, if you look at the car images via google you can see differences.

The good news seems to be that the lighting units look exactly the same.

Regards,

Peter.

My car's VIN number says it is a 2008 model despite it being manufactured in March 2007.

Shaun, hopefully I can assist with the parking sensors. They work on a type of daisy chain meaning if one sensor is defunct then none of the others will work. It could very well be the case that you may have a dodgy one which work intermittently therefore your statement 'mind of their own'.

The simple method for establishing as to whether a sensor is working correctly is for you to get someone to sit in the drivers seat, start engine, apply hand brake fully and select reverse checking each sensor in turn for a clicking sound. If no clicking sound is present on one or more then I would suspect the sensor/sensors to me at fault.

Tip to the wise, don't get her indoors to sit in the drivers seat whilst performing the test she may seize the opportunity to get rid so to speak  :D

Best car I've ever had in 35 years driving.

Shaun sounds like you've been unlucky.  I bought my S Type at the end of September so am not quite 2mths into ownership but am loving it.  It's a bit of a thirsty beast as I tend to do local driving so am only returning 22mpg but as it's my play car not the family motor I don't care.  You'll really love it when you get driving it properly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to getting the car back...hopefully working correctly. Have always been a BMW man in the past with E36's, E39's and my classic E30 (which current one is my second) and wanted a change.

Just fell in love with the Jag as soon as I saw and drove it...so had to have it. Anyway, appreciate the advice and maybe I'll post an update as and when I get the Jag back again!

Just as a bit of useless information. Those reflectors are lights for the us market hence why they have left them as reflectors for other countries ive thought about getting some from america and have a go at wireing them up

Wiring won't be a problem, if you need help I'll draw you up a diagram

Not really looking to get them working really. Was more along the lines of colour coding.

So pretty much any year will fit my '04 then?

Thanks
