Hi there, I wondered if anyone on here might be familiar with the symptom I have.

Previously the egr coolant hose was split so I bought and fitted a silicone replacement. At the same time I decided to give the egr valve a clean and also fit a blanking plate.

Starts and drives fine, the problem I s that when idling there is a deep tapping noise, from the outside it sounds like there is some music on in the car with a heavy baseline. Perfectly timed apart, sounds like a pump pulsing.

With gentle revs it goes away. A quick off then restart and it went. Next journey back again.

Could it be the Vac pump? Anyone heard of this? Could it be related to the blanked egr?

54 plate 2.0D 72k miles.

Panic over, rubber vac hose had popped off the underside of the L shaped air intake box just next to the battery. Popped it backoin and sorted!

Welcome to the club, Neil.

Glad the problem has been sorted out.

I am thinking of  partial blanking plates on my s type 2.7D V6 as I periodically get Code P0402 when the warning light comes on.  I have used the method of a good blast on the A38 and the Wynn's EGR cleaner when that doesn't work.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Peter.

I'll certainly report back in a few days, very early indications (popping out last night to collect take away) it seemed like the turbo was spooling up a bit earlier. Black smoke out the back under acceleration seems to be cured.

Well yes, changing the egr coolant hose and sticking in an egr blanking plate has completely cured the black smoke out the exhaust under acceleration.

Its also added a couple of mpg to my average too which is great news.
