Hi all,

The electronic handbrake on my jag s-type 2005 was stuck on. It was released by a roadside recovery using a computer. Will I need to have the brake reset or will I have to replace it

                                                                 Thank you.

Hi Keith, and welcome to the club.

My s type has had this happen to me on a few occasions.  The first time I called out the recovery service from Britannia Rescue, snd the guy said he knew nothing about modern cars.  Britannia rescue was cancelled.

We discovered by googling the issue that you can release a stuck handbrake by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnecting it, which allows the onboard computer to reset.

You will need to have your radio code ready to reset your other settings.

You will then need to press the footbrake ---  there will be an instruction on the message centre  --  and handbrake.

That will complete the reset without any need to spend money.

I had to buy two new spanners as all my spanners were imperial rather than metric!  I keep those two spanners in the glovebox!

Regards,

Peter.

What happens when all that doesn't work. like NOW. I have done everything as suggested, it is stuck solid no matter what I do, can I disconnect completely. And who's daft !Removed! idea was an electronic handbreke anyway?

Hi David, and welcome to the club.

That system has always worked for me and others.  Is your battery fully charged?

Have you got a Homestart in your breakdown assistance which could be a help.

I would be inclined to have another go first before contacting a garage, or doing any work on it yourself. I am not a mechanic  but just an experienced driver.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.
