Hi people.

My 2008 XF 2.7 had the battery removed for a couple of months. Now that it's been put back on, it's behaving really strangely.

The key works, the vents open and gear selector etc comes up, the engine turns over, but will not fire. Im guessing that somehow, the electrics, ECU has lost its memory and so the engine is imobilised.

Can anyone confirm this, and maybe suggest what I should do.

I am fairly mystified as to what has occurred.  I have heard that if the battery has been disconnected for some time, the ECU needs a ten mile drive to wake it up, but you car won't fire up so you can't do that.

 

Is the battery fully charged and in good condition and does the Radio work are two questions.

 

I don't know a great deal about the XK, but the engine is the same one as  in my s type so I would ask the other questions - are the glow plugs working ok - light coming on - and is the fuel pump working?

The battery was not fully charged when it was tried, and a booster was used to get it powered up.

 

It seems like everything else works, [if only looking like low powered] as the wipers work slower than they should. I have had it taken to a local garage which is a large one, not a one man operation, to see what they make of it.

 

Il post again when I get some response [other than scratching their heads] from them.

I have had 2 flat batteries in the past and each time had all manner of faults when the car is finally started. Gearbox faults and ecu meassages were the main ones but once you have a decent battery fitted and started and stopped the car a few times the reported faults slowly go away over time.
