ive been experiancing starting problems on my xf,when i press start button nothing happens and everything shuts down ive replaced car battery and smart key batteries seem to resolve problem for couple of days. and now  its cuasing same problems again.

ive just wondered if might be something to do with cold start.any ideas thx

Brake light switch? I just mention it at as it sounds like the same behaviour as pressing the start button without pressing the brake pedal.

When one of my sons had a car that refused to start I hit the starter motor with a lump hammer.  It started.

 

Times have changed somewhat!!

 

  My skills with cars haven't changed much!

I had this with my touareg I was told to press the brake pedal harder

or replace the brake pedal switch.

it was, I just needed a larger shoe size

A very good point you made there ie brake light switch,ive told jaguar uk and they said first they checked.

it seemed to be the new car battery i put on, needed to be syncranised to the car ie talk to each other also software update needed to be installed to the car.

gone the days you cannot do simple task to mend little problems on car nowadays

My 08 XF has developed an intermittent starting issue. Press brake pedal then button and it just turns over but won’t start. Up until now I’ve got her started eventually. Runs great otherwise. Could this be a faulty brake pedal switch?

I BOUGHT AN XF 09 PLATE A FEW WEEKS AGO. DAMN THING WOULDNT START.

HAD BATTERY  AND ALTERNATER LOOKED AT. ALL GOOD.SEEMS CONNECTION BETWEEN BRAKE PEDAL AND STARTER

 A BIT IFFY.  USED BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL WITHOUT  USING EXCESIVE FORCE. BINGO. NO PROBLEM SINCE.

TRY BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL,  WITHOUT USING EXCESIVE FORCE.  WORKED FOR ME. GOOD LUCK
