Hi there guys. I was just wondering if anyone knew the symptoms of leaking cylinders? It's an expensive job to get done so I want to be sure. The p0251 code has come up and a mechanic just read it literally without any research as my fuel pump (£350 fitted) but I don't want to get it done just invade its not the fuel pump and it turns out to be the dreaded cylinders. Any help would be awesome. Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

From what I have found  ---  on a Ford Forum ---  is that P0251 is a generic code, and covers a multitude of issues surrounding glow plugs, injectors etc, or even a fuel leak somewhere along the fuel line.

There was no mention of the fuel pump or leaking cylinders.

It might be worth a second opinion.  But I am not on engineer, just a former accountant, so I always Iook for the cheapest option.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi peter.

I have done the same research as you it sounds. The problem I see is, like you rightly say, it's a genetic code for the whole fuel system, so if I was to change the fuel pump and the problem persisted, I've wasted a good amount of money without getting anywhere. I do also think the mechanic I took it to didnt seem very confident with his diagnosis.

It's a bit of a mine field this p0251 code so perhaps best to take it to a jaguar specialist?

Thanks.

Hi Chris,

There is a topic on the Jaguar Owners Lounge  --  a list of independent garages, and there is one near Preston and another in Manchester which might be worth looking at.

Let is know how you get on.

Regards

Peter.

I will do Peter. I've just booked it into a garages that specialises in common rail engines and more specifically, Jaguars! It's going in on the 2nd so I will keep you updated.

Thanks for the good advice Peter.

Chris
