its 5/30 part synthetic in my x type which is right for my car  that's what it say's in my drivers hand book.

i never put cheap oil in a car anyway ? always use a good brand of oil, not saying ford isnt a good brand but i've never used it so i cant comment.  

 

not sure for the s type,staff / member old peter may give you a better idea when he see's this post

The short answer is "yes". 

 

I have checked the S Type handbook and that level of oil is recommended.

What oil should I use in my 2001 3l stype just as a top up. Not a full oil change
