my sisters x type diesel, has developed this intermittent problem, whilst driving all the dashboard clocks and displays switch off, hence she has no speedo etc...had battery and alt meter checked and they're o.k. any suggestions.

Welcome to the Club, Debbie.

It sounded  bit like battery to me  ----  but it has been checked, so that seems to rule it out, although I would check if the battery is the correct one for the x type.

I would guess that it is a bad connection somewhere.
