I think it means "Racing" as it appeared on the early Jaguar racing cars.

 

What I am positive about is that if you put your foot down in any model the with the R badge on the back you will not get a surprise --  something much more than that!

There isn't a production X type R. The r on the back of an S type, XJ or XK means they are fitted with a super charger. The R on the back of an X type means some ones stuck a badge on it.

Hello Fellrunner.

 

I think basically somebody bought the wrong car so they stuck the R badge on to make themselves feel better. It would have been far less embarrassing to just by an S Type R, that is going to be my treat next year ;)! Hope that helps.

I once saw a Triumph Herald with a GT badge on the back.

 

The herald was a good  car --  my first  -- but with 1200 cc and a top speed of 86 mph, was  certainly not a GT.

should have added. the x-type was the entry level "basic" jaguar. or "baby"jaguar. then the s-type "middle of the range" jaguar. the xk8 "sports job" the xj "flagship model" that was the "old range" the new boys are jaguar xe (baby) xf (toddler) f-type (sports job) xj "flagship"  ITS GOOD TO BE BACK
