Hi all

Not an owner.....yet.

Been humming and aahing for the last 12 months now on S Type ownership.

Came very close 6 months ago but was offered a bridge alternative which I'll keep to mysef for now. Will say its a 2.5 V6 non-Jag coupe but still a cat.

Previous car was a Rover 75 V6 and always wanted a S Type.

Had been looking at older 3.0 models with manual gearbox as heard so many horror stories about older autos.

Do like the option though as previously have had big self shifters.

Quandry now.

Have chance of 99 plate V8.

Please understand fuel not an issue as its a second car to my Land Rover.

Car is low priced I'm guessing due to engine size.

List of things to look on a test drive and inspection please.

I do tend to throw myself into replacement and repairs but financially there is a limit when compared to value of car.

Your thoughts and recommendations please.

Welcome to the Club, Paul.

The s type is a great car to drive, but mainly what you need to check out is any underside rust in an a 1999 car. If it has a low mileage for its year and a good service history you should be OK.

Others more mechanically expert than myself will be along to advise, as there are a lot of expert and helpful members in the Club.

The low price will probably reflect both the year and the fuel usage.

Regards,

Peter.

the rover 75 was a better car interior than the stype -_-

I had the Rover 825 Sterling with every conceivable extra, which I kept for nearly 12 years and would still have it had it not been wearing out.

I now have an S Type SE with also a multitude of optional extras and it is far superior than the Rover.

Hoped there would be someone who could point me in the direction of a buyers guide post on the forum, but no worries. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Paul,

there does not seem to be a buyers guide as such but if you look at reviews on sites such as the AA, Honest John etc you might find some help.

It is also worth looking at Wikipedia.

Experiences of members is usually the best.

Peter.
