Hi All X type drivers,

My younger son's 15 year old Skoda is starting to wear out, and after he has  considered just about every other make of car he has at last determined that Jaguars are rather splendid cars.

With a proclivity for the open air and camping [plus two a wife and two children] he has come across two rather good models within his budget

An X type 2.1 Petrol SE -- 39k on an 04 plate from a reputable dealer with FSH - in Gold  or

An X type Sport 2.0 litre Diesel estate with 91k on an 06 plate in pale blue. Reputable dealer too.

I have advised him which car would be the better one, but he has suggested that a view from the club would be very useful.

Adequate space is an issue, but having taken a wife and three children camping in a Ford escort I do not see a problem with either.

Some good advice guys, please.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

I ran an 06 SE 2L diesel for about 6 years. It returned excellent MPG averaging mid 50s and sometimes 60 on a run after I blanked off the EGR valve but I tend not to hammer my cars. The auxy drive belt tensioner rattled on tick over so I replaced it but after a while the new one rattled so I just ignored it. Never had a problem with injectors or DM flywheel but the car was still under 80K miles when I sold it earlier this year so maybe those joys are waiting to surprise the new owner. I also replaced one rear suspension lower arm but other than that it was just normal servicing. In all a very reliable and economical car. I replaced it with an XJ6 which I find more comfortable and more in keeping with my advancing years. Thankfully not an issue with your Son.

Wouldn't hesitate to have another one.

Happy hunting

Pete

Thanks Pete.

I have passed on your information to my son.  He is now found two cars of a similar vintage and will follow them up to a visit.  He does like my s type!

He is now 45 and thinks he is right for a Jaguar now!

Best Regards,

Peter.

Peter, you really should be directing him toward's an S type.

He loves the S Type, Garry, but with a wife and 2 children  and a penchant for the open air and camping, an estate car is what he wants,

He has been looking at things like an X Trail and a Freelander, but I directed him towards a Jaguar

Peter.
