hi

i have just bought an S Type a couple of weeks ago and this weekend have noticed whilst stopping at traffic lights or any Junctions that the car starts to have a slight shake from the engine like a misfire and just before i got home the Engine management light has come on? any ideas, or do i just need to take for a diagnostic test.

Welcome to the club, Alan.

Is your car a diesel or petrol?

It is worth having an OBD2 scanner -- they are quite cheap -- which will tell you what the code is which will indicate the problem.

My engine warning light came on on Saturday.  I just plugged in the scanner, it read Code P0402, which I looked up and found that it was too much exhaust gas hanging around the EGR valves [2 of them on the S type], which was cured by a good blast on the A 38.

The S type is a great car to drive, and I hope you enjoy both the car and the Club.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

Thanks for your reply sounds like a good idea, better than spending time in a

Garage, also it is a Petrol.

HI Alan,

When I first got my s type after my x type was carjacked, I found out that the main dealerships would charge £69 for a diagnostic test.

I thought £20 for an OBD2 scanner was cheaper!

Regards,

Peter.
