Recommended tyre pressures for xf

Hi Chaps

I own a  2012 jag xf 3.0 premium luxury running on 245x55 x18 Goodyear's .A number of websites recommend 31psi all round which sounds bit low particularly if you are on a motorway, for high speeds jag recommend 38psi Since I do a mixture I shall try an average of 35 all round. Would be interested to hear views on what would be the ideal pressure for every day driving.

Hi Graham,

The tyre pressure seems to be the same as the  with a recommended 31 psi all round. For high speeds the Jaguar recccomndation of 38 psi means at speeds over 100 mph.

I would stay with the 31 psi.  I keep to that & my tyres never get warm, which is a reasonable test.

Only you as an owner driver can decide? You know your style of driving and load carried? And not take Jaguar's recommended quoted pressures as gospel. Most OME tyres fitted to new models are soft walled tyres so when released to the press to test and apprise in somewhere like Spain on smooth roads they report back how nice and comfortable the ride is. 

Buy a cheap digital tyre depth gauge and check the tread depth each 500 miles then adjust your starting pressure according to wear? Edges wearing increase a couple of psi, Center wearing decrease a couple of psi until there's near even tread wear and that will be the correct psi.

I personally have 19" rims and use 245x45 extra load (XL) tyres with sidewall rim protectors and 34psi all round which are virtually pot hole and wife's parking proof.

I run 20 inch tyres at 38 psi andhave done so for over 100,000 miles. Reason being edges generally lose their tread before the middle of the tyre. Recently got 42,000 miles out of a pair of budget tyres on the front do must be doing something right.
