2015 XF recall

Featured Replies

I'm now the proud owner of a 1 year old XF 2.2 (200bhp) Premium Luxury Sportbrake that I picked up a week ago.

Yesterday, i got a call from the dealer (Lookers at Park Royal) informing me that my car was the subject of a recall as there was a problem with the tyres on certain models.

He didn't elaborate and I didn't query it as I have to take it in on Monday to have 4 new tyres fitted which sounds like a right result to me.

Has anyone else had theirs recalled?

The reason I ask is that it seems a a coincidence that the day before i got the call, the salesman rang me to see how i was getting on with my new Jag. I told him I was pleased but concerned that I experience a knocking/juddering from the front wheels when i turn right off my drive every morning. It only happens when it's cold and by the next turn, it doesn't happen again.

As I have a gravel drive, I thought it might be stones stuck in the tread that was causing it but looking at other forums, others have the same problem. Some blame the cause on the Air suspension or tyres or bushes etc etc.

So, is this a genuine recall that will solve the problem or will i have 4 new tyres and still have to take it back after?

Hi Neil,

I have heard of a tyre recall quite a long time ago.

I had a friend who was the Area Manager for a Tyre Manufacturer when I lived in North Wales. The recall was on certain Vauxhall Vehicles that had apparently been fitted with tyres not suited to the Model in question.  The technical bits I don't know anything about, but I do know that it was kept quiet.

Regards,

Peter.

I took it back and they replaced the Pirelli tyres with Goodyear Eagles. They said it was Pirelli that recalled them..

Since changing the tyres, I have not had that knocking/rumbling noise but I can't work out why as the new tyres are the same size and spec.

Still puzzled and a bit suspicious of the recall but at least I've got 4 new tyres and the problem solved.

Hi Neil,

Last year I replaced two Pirellis on the front of my S Type, and did some research as to which were the best tyres meeting all the EU criteria and also for stopping in the wet and noise.   Goodyear Eagles came out the best, just beating Vredestein for top place.

I think Jaguar also did that little bit of research, and as Pirelli were way down on the list, probably determined that Goodyears were better tyres for the model.

I certainly could tell the difference,

Regards,

Peter.

There was a survey last year, and quite a few posts on the topic of Tyres.  The survey took into account wear, quietness, and behaviour in wet conditions as well as meeting the EU requirements for 2017.

Goodyear Eagle XL Asymmetric came out top with Vredestein a close second.  From memory I think Pirelli were quite low in the top ten, 7th I think.

Peter.
