Hi, I have a 2004 model xj6 with bad radio reception it does not have an external ariel so I guess it will be internal

Hi Brian, and welcome to the Club.

My s type and the two previous cars that I had all have had internal aerials and I had great reception from all of them.

It could be that area in which you live is reception  "black spot" or that your aerial has a bad connection.

If the reception is  always bad wherever you are, then I guess the aerial has the fault, which a good auto electrician should be able to fix.

Regards,

Peter.
