Today I took the keys for my first Jaguar. A '95 X300, very similar to one which my father used to have. 

I picked it up this morning and it started on the button, but there was an awful shriek from the auxiliary belts... Got it back to the parents (my tools are there), gave car a wash, and adjusted the belts. I've done 85 miles in her today. There is an annoying rattle from fuel tank area, and also a vibration (I'm hoping wheel balance..) circa 55mph, so lots to do. 

Here she is! I'm pleased to be a part of your community, and a Jag owner!

Vibration could be tyres also.  I had a front wheel vibration on a Rover Sterling, and found that there was just a small bulge, probably caused by a pothole.

Thanks Peter. It's not without its dings and dents, and lacquer peel... But certainly not a bad looking car. I can't make my mind up on those wheels though! (Aesthetically).

It may very well be I'll get underneath it or Saturday and find out! Other than those issues it runs like a dream. I am chuffed!

Indeed you have a smart looking X300 - Looks pretty well mint. I would be interested know if you got wheels sorted. Mine is an XJ6 - 4 Litre - 20 years old and 127,000 miles. She has the odd little dink (due to inconsiderate others bashing her with their doors !!!) The wheels are the originals but the lacquer has peeled. Just had a full service and had the AC Belt and fan belt changed. Also the rear bushes were replaced (I was hearing a noise that sounded like the cover over the spare wheel - part of the boot floor was rattling). She drives so smoothly now. Just a word of caution if you didn't already know - make sure the fuel filler area under the flap is free from grit and leaves and water is free to drain - otherwise the tank fills with water !!. Rodding the drain with flexible curtain wire does the job.
