Hi

I'm trying to locate the nearest ground terminal for the fusebox in the drivers footwell. I want to hardwire my dashcam but cant find a ground point anywhere. I've spent hours googling and looking at forums but cant find anythign specific other than theres a ground point on the lower a pillar.

Does anyone know where and how to access one of them?

Hi Nathan, any metal part of the body is a ground point, this is what is referred to a 'negatively earthed' i.e. take a positive from the battery and the negative is via the cars steel structure. So look out for where a bolt goes into the metal and you can crimp on a connector (or wrap the wire around it if you must, crimping is neater!) and use this. I've just had a quick look on mine and the bolts into the steering column would probably work if you can't find anything on the fuse box itself, perhaps the ones that bolt the fuse box to the body? Or you could break into any other grounding wire with a crimp or screw connector.

Hope this help, Russ

Thanks Russ,

I'll take a look when im on my lunch break, as I wanted to keep it as neat as possible. I did look behind the A pillar cover, could I use the bolt just above the dash in the picture?

Sorry if im repeating myself, it's just I don't know much about auto electrics and don't want to cause trouble as I understand the electrics on the S-Type are rather sensitive.Exterior and interior trim I can have a field day with though :-)

Yup, something like that screw looks fine, remove it, insert the wire or crimp connector and screw it back in. You'll know soon enough if the earth is good or you need to look elsewhere. Ensure you can get the wire under the trim neatly, or you could perhaps go somewhere less visible

Hi Russ,

FItted the dashcam today with success. Looks as though that bolt was a good ground point. Thanks for your help.

No worries, glad you sorted it! Do those windscreen trims just pull off? The fabric is lifted on mine and I may be able to do a more effective repair if they're on the bench. I was thinking to use PVA to glue them back 🤔

Hi,

If it's still of use this image shows the Primary Junction Fuse Box Ground Point.
