6 Months and still smiling

Featured Replies

Hi, 6 months ago I mondeo died after almost 200k miles. Went to Jag with the old man as he wanted to upgrade his XF for an XJR. He couldn't afford the upgrade but I ended up driving away with a 2010 XFs Portfolio. I love the car and the looks I get wearing a SnapBack cap in an "old mans car" is priceless.

Monday I'm going on a mini brake to visit friends in Germany. (Apparently I have to take the family and not the Motorbike).

I am all set to go other than working out the Sat Nav. I haven't really used it as yet but it looks quite good. I just need to know how I route a location when the final destination is on another disc? I have the discs do get me there but do I have to route to the French border and then change discs and route through Germany to my destination?

Welcome to the club, Daniel.

I don't know about the vagaries of the XF SatNav, but the disc in my s type covers Western Europe, and there is the facility to change countries.

When I went to Ireland last year, I changed the map before getting off the ferry and had no problem, but then only one country.

But if you have a separate disc for each country, the logic is to plan a route to the best through road to your destination.

XF owners could assist here.

Regards,

Peter.

P.S.  I used to cycle around Europe before the SavNav was invented and managed to get there and back!

Thanks for the reply Peter. I'm not adverse to the journey but I have the SatNav so want to use it. To be honest I am not sure if I even need it but the UK disc seems to cover France but the other Disc covers Belgium Netherlands and Germany. Depending how it works I'll just turn the Navigation on when I leave France as I'll have a boot full of loot and it's easier than changing discs. I was just wondering what is officially supposed to be done as I can't be the only one ever wanting to do this.

Yes, Daniel.  I like using the Jaguar SatNav, and the one on the S Type is quite user friendly.

Having spent almost 40 years doing over 30k a year, I have got to know a lot of England and Wales, a bit of Scotland.  Wherever you used to be able to see a steelworks I have been around that area!

Regards,

Peter.

I'm glad you enjoy the motor Daniel, my trusty Passat has now gone to meet its maker, 2 weeks ago and am well pleased with the xf so far.

I too am planning a trip abroad to Brittany, and was just reading the thread about disks for the sat nav, was just wondering if my generation of xf has these disks....I cant see anything in the manual. 2013 sports brake bussnes edition.

Hi Steve,

I do believe that later XK models have a SatNav system that operates via a software system downloaded onto the computer.  I could be wrong, but I do know that there was a change in the system.

Regards

Peter.

My Dad has a 2013 XF he has the version without CD's and drives around the whole of the EU without my issue. I hope you have the enjoyment out of yours I'm having from mine

I did pop in and speak to Jag direct and was informed that i will have to navigate to the French border, stop change CD and  route to my end location

Regards to you all

Dan

Thanks for your replies guys
