Hi i am getting the dreaded restricted performance mode very randomly , I have put my code reader on and it refers to the EGR valves, will it be new EGR valves  or is there a cheaper fix?

These are the fault code from my reader

Hi Gary,

I sometimes used to get P0402 and the amber engine light coming up.  I use an additive - currently a Millers Product which Opie Oils sell and it seems to work.

Opie Oils are trading members of the JOC.

Peter.

Its the right EGR valve gone completely u/s, need a new one. Being done in two weeks. I have decided to go with genuine as I used aftermarket on my last diesel and it only lasted 14 months.

Hi Gary,

It is often worth spending a few shillings more for something that will last much longer.  I had a bad blow out on a tyre in the North East of England late on a Saturday and managed to get to a large tyre company that was still open.  They fitted a tyre and gave me a 12 month guarantee. They said that they didn't have the Brand of tyre I wanted, unfortunately.  Eight thousand miles and 13 months later, that tyre needed replacing!

Certain after market parts are needed when you cannot get the genuine one, but if I can get the genuine part that's is what I go for.

Regards,

Peter.

Good to hear everything's sorted, and a few extra mpg can't be bad.
