Hi all,

I've had my XF for a year now but just come across the forum.

This is my first Jaguar and I'm enjoying it so far, whether a diesel is the right car for doing a quick 7 mile trip to work each day is up for debate, but so far it's been good.

Im based in Leicester and see plenty of other Jaguars on the road, I'm interested in finding other drivers opinions on local servicing and general maintenance.

Welcome to the club, John.

I have the s type with the 2.7 diesel engine, and although I only do a small mileage plus mostly short trips I have never had a problem that I am unable to solve very easily.

Both the EGR valves and the DPF c an both be solved by the use of an additive -- there are plenty available and all pretty good.  Currently I am using a Millers Oils diesel additive, and a longer trip about once a month is not a chore  but a pleasure and can be fitted in with a visit to somewhere nice or useful.

I hope you enjoy the club as much as you are enjoying your Jaguar.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi,

I'm in the market for an XF but have been warned (admittedly by a BM owner), that the diesel if problematic and I want to ensure that I know what to look for ask when viewing various XF.

I'm currently doing about 6-8,000 miles a year, is the 2.2 diesel the better option or is the 3.0 "S" model something I could consider?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers in advance

Hi Wayne,

If you are looking to buy a diesel, both the engine you mention are good engines.  The 2.2 D is a tried and tested engine and was used in the X type for quite a few years.  The 3.0 lite diesel is a development of the 2.7 Gemini engine developed by Ford and Peugeot [plus others] and is the uprated version of that engine to meet the EU6 emissions regulations.  Both engines do give a good mpg.

Regards,

Peter.

Hiya. I've got a 60 plate 3.0L XF and absolutely love it. Power and torque are immense and a joy to drive. I have experienced a FULL DPF a couple of times during a number of consecutive short runs and required a couple of 20 min drives at 50 mph in 3rd to resolve. Hasn't happened for a while now but wouldn't put me off buying another one. Beautiful car!

Hi Paul, and welcome to the club.

Luckily I have never had a DPF full warning as I manage to do a longish run every month.  I also use an additive as I have had some P0420  [EGR] warnings which if has appeared to cure, as I have not have had any for over a year,  It also seems to keep the fuel system clean.

The diesel engine is much maligned, but if you use premium fuel and treat it with a small amount Diesel Power ECOMAX which does reduce emissions, it will be just as clean as petrol engines.

Regards,

Peter.
