hello. having been a jag fan for many many yrs and owned quite a few and came accross a bargain of a s type in aberdeen for 200 quid. ive been out the jag scene for 6 yrs having been dissapointed with a x300 i bought after 7 yrs of  various xj6 ownerships. i currently been running a impreza classic but is in the middle of a engine rebuild and saw this w reg jag for sale. stype 3ltr v6 with the 5 sp auto.. was told it needed brakes done and a shock. £200 for the car i thought why not. so far ive replaced all the brakes and dics all round and serviced it. everything works apart from the folding mirrors ( uless i dont know how they work lol ) so far it seems to be a bargain anyway. up for a test and all it needed was two track rod ends and two brake pipes ...oh and a front bearing as i pullrd the abs cap off from behind the front wheel and lost the magnetic pick up ring . grrr. going to change gearbox Oil as most folk forget to do this and although its a smooth box when it goes into 5th it has a slight judder so hoping its just dirty Oil and filter. tho for the price i can afford to spend a bit on it and run it untill my other car is finished

Hi Alun, and welcome to the Club.

That is a lot of car for the money, and it sounds like it has found a good home!

Welcome to the club, Alun.

Changing the Oil is a probably good solution.  Although sealed for life, many members find than changing the Oil at about 70k does improve the gearbox performance.

And £200 for the  car is less than the price of the wheels!

Regards,

Peter.

thanks folks. think by the look of it the gearbox is too full of Oil. pulled the level plug and Oil is pouring out. so next dry day will get the level set when i refill. i love the jags and loved my old xj6's had a daimler 3.6 too which i loved but ended up too rotten in the end.. had every xj from the single cam 2.9 up to the 4ltr.  had a twin turbo xf diesel for a shot of too which restored my love of the jags after i went off the quality of the x300 and didnt like the x type or to be truthful this x200 but for the money i thought it would be a nice relaxing drive compared to my classic type ra subaru that is a bit of a animal lol.  and one day hope to own one. or a xj6 xjr. got another niggle with the fuel gauge but will post up a different thread for it.
