Ok i have noticed that the wifes car makes a noise when first pulling away ( she was oblivious to it ) bless,

so gentlemen should i take the gearbox off just to look  option 1

let it be till it eventually get louder  option 2

Option 3 replace complete clutch and thrust bearing dont know if its a dual mass flywheel,  having never owned 1 before, but with my good friend and his ramp we are able to fix it

It only makes the noise on pulling away and goes through the gears great and does not slip when i let my right heavy foot relax when slow cars are in front , yes to my shame i have to see how the car overtakes the slower cars, not owned it long enought to be bored with it.

so hoping its the cheaper non dualmass flywheel  and because they are a pain  im thinking option 2 although my mechanical side say change it save more work,

oh yeah 1 more option jst change the thrust bearing and look at the wear on clutch.

car will be going on holiday soon to bognor and i will follow up later in my little car, will say what it is and put up with the well thats a hair dressers car Mk1 mx5  or as the yanks call them miata.

Hi

When does it exactly make the noise

Thrust bearing will make a noise when you press the clutch pedal only, also a noisy thrust bearing can usually be felt through the clutch pedal when pressed

dual mass flywheel can make various noises, usually a continuous noise when running/idling, can go quiet when revs are raised and some times they go quiet when you press the clutch

to do either, the gearbox has to come off, so if you thinking of do any, both should be done at the same time, including the thrust bearing

not sure if these do have a dual mass flywheel, but most diesels have, its a way of eliminating vibration on diesels

but if you were thinking of changing the thrust bearing only, you have to remove the gearbox, so while it off, its a ten minute job to remove the clutch and check it and once you've removed the clutch, the dual mass flywheel is there right in front of you, just check it, basically the dual mass flywheel is made up of two parts, the centre and outer, between the two parts is filled with rubber, the rubber fails and perishes, so the outer becomes loose and will vibrate, it should be visable and you will feel movement in it if its starting to fail

what year is your car, petrol or diesel, that might indicate whether it has a dual mass flywheel

cheers

Joe

P.S. on your car the thrust bearing alone can't be changed, it has a concentric thrust bearing

so pics and prices, these are a guess as not sure what engine you have

2.2dse 6 speed manual and it only makes the noise when you put you let your foot of  when first pulling away from stand still or when reversing so only when releasing the pedal to engage the clutch fully, and not heard when just changing gears.

So just when first pulling away and at no other time and no vibration is felt .
