Need a bit of help ....the cap on my coolant reservoir unscrews part way and then just goes round and round. Is there some kind of trick to it? There is nothing listed in the manual.

Just about to drive down to France, I always carry a can in the car just in case but have never needed it before, level is down to just under the min level, so need to top it up.

Any comments will be helpful.

Hi

At a guess, the caps faulty, there like a ratchet/clutch built into the cap on mine so you can over tighten it, at a guess it failed and just spins

just needs a new cap

you could try press or pulling while your trying to undo it to get it off maybe

make sure engine cold when trying though, because of the pressure

cheers

Joe

Same has happened to me Steve, and be re-assured that it is a common problem. Mine seems to have corrected itself or maybe I've just got used to it ... there certainly seems to be a knack involved.  In my case I pressed down on the cap at the point it was ineffectively spinning and it somehow reset itself on the thread. If that doesn't work then pull the cap up until it bites.  It took me a few attempts to work it out and a bit of frustrated muscle became involved too. The cap seems to have a mind of its own.
