HELP ! newbie

Featured Replies

hi, I have just bought a 1997 xk8,  but when I drive over the slightest bump, it feels like it jumps down a gear and the dash says "engine fault" and then I have to turn off the car re start it and it clears until it meets another bump or I  pull away a bit fast, any ideas anyone ?  thanks wendy

Hi

Could be one of many things really, but sounds like a loose connection

All the answers you will get will be just guess work and could cost you a small fortune to chase them all

Only way is to get it plugged in with Ideally jaguar software and that will point you to exactly where the fault is, rather than guess work

If you plug in with a generic code fault reader, it might not show any faults, as most will only communicate with the engine ecu only

could be something as simple as a loose plug or a faulty abs sensor, but I'd be guessing

cheers

Joe

Hi Wendy, and welcome to the club.

Joe is quite right.  The dealer from whom you bought the car might be able to correct the issue.  Other than that a visit to a Jaguar dealer or a garage with all the equipment should be able to solve it.

I had a problem with a TV yeaterday when it declared there was no signal.  Instead of getting out the ladder and looking at the aerial, I tighten up the connector!

Regards

Peter.
