S Type Fog Lights

Featured Replies

Have had to replace a broken fog light on my 2000 S-type. I've probably only switched them on a  couple of times in the 15 years I've owned the car. But was amazed to discover the bulb housing had melted onto the bulb. Not only on the broken one, but also on the other side as well. Has anyone else come across this 'feature'?

Hi

Never Seen That before, were they brighter bulbs, I've seen brighter, higher wattage bulbs overheat the lamp holders and wiring connectors before

there quite a generic fog light as well, used by Fords, Citroens and Puegeots are just a few that use the same fogs

cheers

Hello Joe

No idea. Wouldn't have thought so, I haven't uprated them and I can't imagine the original owner would have done but I'll check on the bulb tomorrow if I can get it out of the molten mess!

Tony

Welcome to the club, Tony.

Jaguar solved that problem in the very last year of production.  They did not install front fog lights in the 07/57 plate models.  I just uprated my s type with similar of 20% more powerful bulbs.

Nice to see an s type owner keeping  the early model for such a long time!

Regards,

Peter.

Here is the sorry mess. When I managed to dig the bulb out I couldn't see any markings to indicate wattage. It's a mystery!

Thanks for the welcome Peter. Are you suggesting it was a known problem? I know they changed the style in 2004.

Wouldn't be without the old girl (or the Jag!).  She only comes out when there isn't any danger of salt on the roads.

She likes doing weddings for friends. Trouble is not sure how much longer I can get in and out of the driver's seat.

Hi Tony

Not seen that type before, I've seen the round fogs and the holder is made of metal

that ones plastic, make sure the connections are tight a loose connection can create quite a hot spot

cheers

Joe

Hi Tony,

I don't think it was a known problem, although I did not understand why they did not fit fog lights to the 2007 models.

You don't often see white s types, but they do look rather good , especially on sunny days.

Peter.
